If there’s one thing that can make a huge difference to how you look, it’s the appearance of your teeth – it’s a crucial part of the first impression you make on someone. So, if you’ve not always been vigilant about taking the best care of your teeth (and let’s face it, who has?), then teeth whitening is a great way to undo some of the damage.
Located in Central, Smile Center aims to provide high-quality, effective and safe cosmetic teeth whitening treatments at an affordable price so that the services are accessible to everyone. “We believe that whiter teeth make you look more successful, employable and attractive, which obviously leads to a significantly positive effect on your confidence and self-esteem,” says founder Emilie Ducommun.
You’re not alone, though, if you have some concerns about the process. Emilie talked us through some of the common questions asked by clients.
#1 Will whitening weaken my teeth?
The idea that teeth whitening weakens enamel and heightens sensitivity is probably the single biggest concern about the process. Emilie says it is actually the case that peroxide can be harmful to gums and teeth, and that is the reason why this product must only be used by dentists. As an alternative, Smile Center offers a cosmetic procedure using peroxide-free products only, making the whole experience totally safe for clients. The gel whitens your teeth only on the surface and won’t penetrate the enamel. They also use an LED lamp as a whitening accelerator that doesn’t transmit warmth or UV light. As extra assurance that you’re in safe hands, all the products and LED lamps are certified by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and meet the EU and Swiss safety standards on cosmetic teeth whitening.
#2 Can I have a teeth whitening treatment if I have bonding, crowns or dentures?
Are you self-conscious that your natural teeth are more yellow than your artificial teeth? Many people who have bonding, crowns or dentures want to know if they can undergo a teeth-whitening procedure. Artificial teeth are not porous – they don’t stain over time; by the same token, they won’t whiten during a treatment. If your natural teeth are more yellow than your artificial teeth, Emilie says you are the perfect candidate for a whitening treatment as they can better match the colour between your natural and artificial teeth.
#3 Won’t everyone know that I’ve had a teeth whitening procedure?
While we all want a Hollywood smile, no one wants a procedure that looks too obvious. Many people fear that undergoing a teeth-whitening procedure will leave their teeth blindingly white. Not so, says Emilie. Smile Center is experienced in getting the right result. Their treatments can be as quick as 20 minutes and result in a smile that is two to ten shades whiter.
