It’s uncommon to find a woman, let alone a mother, who doesn’t have some stretch marks. From puberty to pregnancy, there are so many opportunities for our loveable and ever-changing bodies to gather these hard-won battle scars. It’s important to love the skin we’re in, but if your stretch marks bother you, there are some modern treatments to help minimise them. We caught up with SOLÈNE VERROT, founder of EstheClinic in Hong Kong, who kindly answered all our stretch mark FAQs.
What are stretch marks?
A stretch mark is a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. The abrupt change causes the collagen and elastin, which support our skin, to rupture. As the skin heals, stretch marks may appear. Pregnancy, puberty and rapid weight gain can all cause stretch marks.
How can they be treated?
At our clinic, we try to rebuild the collagen in your skin in the area affected by stretch marks. We use anti-stretch mark LED photomodulation treatment combined with thermo-controlled radio frequency. This combination boosts cellular metabolism and regenerates cells to help minimise their appearance.
How does it work?
This treatment combines three collagen-boosting technologies: thermo-controlled radiofrequency to induce collagen stimulation; Le DermaBooster XL to boost deep down in the skin; and LED photomodulation light to stimulate collagen that helps soften and flatten stretch marks.
How long does it take to work?
Typically, you’ll see an improvement from the first session. The marks will fade gradually over the following months as the treatment progresses. As your skin cells regenerate, the area will re-pigment and look smoother.
Does the treatment hurt?
Don’t worry, treating stretch marks with radio frequency and LED photomodulation is a painless procedure. It’s non-invasive and there’s no downtime.
Can you be too young or too old for this treatment?
There is no specific age for getting rid of stretch marks. However, just like all our treatments, we need parental consent for those under 18 years.
How much should I budget for this treatment?
The investment in your skin will differ depending on the severity of your stretch marks. The sessions start from $1,500, and it’s common to recommend ten treatments, sometimes more.
