Do your locks need a lift? Here, four stylists at Glow Spa & Salon Hong Kong give us the scoop on treatments to deal with dry, frizzy and damaged hair or colour that’s faded or uneven.
Stylist #1 – Cynthia
The problem:
The client has curly hair that has been damaged from multiple straightening treatments. It has a mix of curls and straight bits, and it’s also dry, thick and heavy, with some irritation of the scalp – not ideal with summer at our door.
The solution:
We used a Davines Clay Scalp Revival treatment to nourish the scalp. A short haircut then removed all the damaged hair and restored the curl, while also taking heat off the neck – great for the hotter weather. Finally, we applied a B3 treatment to rebuild any residual damage.
Cynthia Sarpomaa has over 25 years of salon experience and has been in Hong Kong for 20 years. She’s a specialist with curly and Afro hair types, and imports specific products to work with Afro hair.
Stylist #2 – Chris
The problem:
The client is newly graduated from university and about to start her first job in the banking industry. However, her hair is washed out, with old colour and uneven highlighting from a previous salon visit – the ends are dry, too. The client is looking for a standard recognisable colour, one that’s interesting yet conservative enough to wear to her new job.
The solution:
The first step was a re-bonding treatment with K18 leave-in repair mask. We then added a few scattered highlights to even out the colour pattern, including a deep vibrant and almost natural red to suit her dark brown eyes and fair skin. Fellow team member Anson then cut her hair using face-framing layers to even the length and add shape and body.
Chris Lo is Glow’s Lead Colour Technician, with 20 years of experience in chemical and colour work. He’s super talented and very focused – quiet, meticulous and precise.
Stylist #3 – SarahAnn
The problem:
The client has a balayage treatment that has dulled, resulting in brassy-looking hair. It’s also very flat, with dry ends and a little too much frizz for her liking.
The solution:
After applying a K18 leave-in repair mask, the client was given a full-head balayage treatment, this time adding a lighter tone to the hair, A few lowlights were included to add more depth and texture and to break up the solid block of colour. The final step was a haircut and styling.
Glow Senior Stylist SarahAnn McGill hails from Scotland and she has over 25 years of experience in salons. She’s a curly hair specialist, too, so she knows how to “fight the frizz”!
Stylist #4 – Anson
The problem:
The client’s hair is not only washed-out in terms of colour, but it has long and broken strands, with damaged and thinning ends. She’s been finding it difficult to manage her hair – and this will only be exacerbated as the humidity ramps up over the Hong Kong summer.
The solution:
Our approach involved two steps. First, we applied a full head of highlights in order to even out and brighten the colour. Next came a keratin treatment to smooth the hair and improve its manageability.
