Teen reviewers put this hair removal salon to the test

28 May, 2018 by Expat Living 2 Min Read

When swimsuit season hits, you want to make sure you are not caught out with unsightly and unwanted body hair in the wrong places. Do you have a teenager who is new to the world of waxing? We talk to Lee Yung Sheng, managing director of Strip: Ministry of Waxing, about what hair removal method will best suit you if you’re new to the world of waxing. And our two teen reviewers then put Strip’s services to the test!

Tell us about Strip.

It was launched in 2002 and it really pioneered the waxing concept store. It has since grown into a recognised international brand with a presence in nine cities. Our strict code of hygiene has made us one of the very first to practice and advocate the “No Double Dipping” rule. Hygiene standards were bought to an even greater height with our sealed personal “Hygiene Pack”. Plus, all our “waxperts” have to undergo intensive training for four to eight weeks to ensure quality in service. This enables customers to have a consistent treatment experience across therapists and countries.

Waxing for teens

What are the differences between waxing and IPL/ laser hair removal?

Waxing is a non-permanent hair removal method that removes hair from the root using a soft wax or hard wax. A thin layer of wax is spread over the skin, and a cloth strip is pressed on top and ripped off in a quick action against the direction of hair growth. Using hard wax, the semi-hard strip of wax is ripped off in a swift motion against the direction of hair growth. It’s a safe and low-cost method for hair removal, though you will have to wax every three to six weeks as the hair grows back. The benefit of waxing is being immediately hairfree for a few weeks after the treatment.

IPL/laser hair removal is a premium service that produces longer-lasting results. These are semipermanent hair reduction methods that use beams of specially filtered light to damage the hair follicles, causing delayed hair growth and a significant percentage of hair to not re-grow at all. In addition, re-growth is usually slower after IPL treatments and is generally lighter and thinner in texture. IPL saves you lots of time as you only require six sessions for a hair reduction effect that lasts for up to two years. Our IPL delivers a very comfortable treatment that is practically painless, even for sensitive areas.

The Verdict

“I had not waxed my legs prior to my visit to Strip and I had been warned about waxing. It does hurt at times, but on the other hand, I was surprised by a great sense of empowerment that I didn’t expect to feel. I definitely felt nurtured by Strip’s kind and well-informed staff. ” HANNAH – AGE 15

“The first thing I noticed were the posters at the entrance, with Star Wars lightsabers and orangutans! The vibe was quite funky and it helped to calm my nerves. It was a bit painful, but not as much as I’d expected. When the waxing was finished, Apple rubbed an antibacterial moisturiser on my legs. The overall experience was great and I would definitely do it again.” KEIRA – AGE 14
