Best hair removal salons in Hong Kong

Are you a smooth operator? If so, when it comes to unwanted body hair, you’ll want to make sure you’re tended to by a pro! Whether it be by waxing or lasers, here are some of the best spas and salons in Hong Kong to head to for hair removal. Your skin will be super smooth in no time!

Glow

Glow Spa has offered specialised treatments in hair removal for over nine years with cutting-edge technology and fully qualified hair-removal technicians. It uses brand-new, certified lasers, Super Hair Removal (SHR) and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) machines for hair removal. These treatment options combine minimal discomfort and maximum effect of near total hair reductions for extended periods. Glow Spa’s therapists Jay, Janice, Lily and Candy are fully qualified, experienced beauticians with internationally recognised specialisation in light and laser therapies.

Glow offers both single treatments for those people looking for a ‘top-up’ treatment, as well as courses of six treatments for clients who are doing laser hair removal for the first time on a specific area. Treatments typically consist of a consultation and patch test followed by six therapy sessions. At the end of the six sessions, Glow Spa offers a complimentary 12-month touch-up treatment period. If you book for six sessions you will get a 10 percent discount off the single session price. A multi area discount of a further 5 percent is also available when clients do more than two treatment areas.

Strip: Ministry of Waxing

Image of reception of Strip: Ministry of Waxing

Located on Lyndhurst Terrace, this global specialist in hair removal offers a choice of treatment services from waxing, Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) and laser hair removal to provide the right solution for your skin and hair type. Managing director Lee Yung Sheng says waxing is an option for non-permanent hair removal with the use of hard or soft wax. “This is a safe and low-cost method for hair removal, although you will have to wax every three to six weeks as the hair grows back. The benefit of waxing is being immediately hair-free for a few weeks after the treatment.”

Strip’s IPL and laser hair removal is a premium service that is pain-free and produces longer-lasting reduction results. “They are semi-permanent hair-reduction methods that use beams of specially filtered light to damage the hair follicles to prevent hair from growing. These types of treatments cause a significant percentage of hair to stop growing,” he says.“However, our body has the amazing ability to self-heal and some hair could re-grow. But this re-growth is usually slower after IPL or laser treatments and is generally lighter and thinner in texture. IPL or laser saves you lots of time as you only require six sessions for a permanent hair-reduction treatment that is practically painless, even for sensitive areas.”

After perfect brows or super smooth legs? Boutique owner Dolma Gurung has a huge amount of experience when it comes to hair removal, and she has worked in the waxing business since 1993 in salons in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi. She came to Hong Kong in 1997 and, after stints in some of the city’s leading spas and salons, decided to start her own salon in 2010.

Dolma aims to give all her customers personal and attentive service, and she only uses premium waxing products. “Our waxing salon is known for its relatively pain-free waxing,” she adds. “We take great pride in providing hygienic and high-standard waxing.” A range of waxing services are offered, with the most popular being Brazilians and body waxing. Her other services include eyebrow threading, and eyelash tinting.

Lavar Premium Waxing Salon

A hair removal salon that uses premium waxes – such as a calming rose wax or a decadent and revitalising chocolate wax – sounds good to us! Lavar offers a range of facial and body waxing services for men and women, along with laser hair removal. It sources a variety of hard and soft waxes from Europe and Australia, to use on different skin and hair types and to prevent hair breakages, ingrown hairs, redness and stinging. The hot wax can remove hair as short as 1mm, while the strip wax will remove hair as short as 2mm. Lavar’s therapists are expertly trained in international methods to provide clients with a professional, smooth and almost painless waxing treatment – perfect for someone who hasn’t tried waxing before and might be a little nervous. Lavar has two convenient locations on Hong Kong Island, meaning you won’t be caught out if you’re in need of an appointment ahead of an important event!
