Linguabox is an online Mandarin language learning platform launched in 2015 by a pair of native speakers with more than 30 years of combined teaching experience. The team gives some insights into the benefits of learning online and the Mandarin classes and tutoring packages available.
What does “Linguabox” mean?
The name represents a metaphorical concept, like a child’s secret box that holds exciting surprises and discoveries. At Linguabox, learners can access a wide range of online resources that provide continuous engagement and growth over time. The symbolism of the name suggests that language learning is an adventure filled with hidden treasures, waiting to be explored and experienced!
What are the benefits of learning Mandarin online versus in a classroom?
Learning Mandarin online offers distinct advantages compared to in-person classrooms, notably the flexibility in scheduling – students can access their classes from any place, any time.
Many of our adult students have busy work schedules, and they’ve mentioned the convenience of being able to fit in a class during their lunch break. This flexibility is beneficial for younger students, too, many of whom can concentrate better in the familiar environment of their home.
At Linguabox, we’ve also partnered with Classin, a platform used by leading institutions and universities globally, to ensure the best virtual classroom experience for learning Mandarin online. Cutting-edge Classin tools include interactive whiteboards and multimedia resources and a high-quality video and audio interface, making online classes engaging and immersive.
What packages are you currently offering?
We offer speaking, tutoring and comprehensive packages, with two different class durations of 25 and 50 minutes.
Speaking Package
Focuses specifically on improving conversational skills in Mandarin; suitable for learners keen to develop their ability to communicate effectively in the language.
Tutoring Package
Offers in-depth learning opportunities on specific topics or language elements, and a more comprehensive approach to Mandarin language learning, along with homework and school curriculum support.
Comprehensive Package
Combines elements of the two packages above into one learning experience. Ideal for Mandarin learners who want to strengthen their conversational abilities and reach fluency faster.
What does a Linguabox class look like?
All our classes are tailored, with a special curriculum built around each student’s personal learning goals. During class, teachers will guide students through planned topics and materials according to those goals. This might include school curriculum help, or, for our speaking classes, covering daily Mandarin vocabulary.
After every class, homework is provided through Classin, complementary to the class content. Students are encouraged to attempt the homework, which also acts as an ongoing assessment for teachers to gauge students’ understanding of the class material.
Can students interact with their teachers and receive feedback?
Of course! Our online platform allows for direct communication with teachers, so the learning experience is interactive. Teachers are available for feedback outside of class, for help with the provided homework or other Mandarin questions. We also provide progress reports to help students improve their language skills.
What support is available for HSK tests and exams?
We offer robust support for students interested in HSK, including;
- Personalised HSK tutoring courses for students at all levels of the exam
- Comprehensive study materials, from grammar guides to practice exercises
- Experienced Mandarin teachers specialised in HSK exam preparation
- Mock HSK examinations that simulate the conditions of the actual test
- Personalised study plans designed around individual goals and areas for improvement
Through these supportive measures, Linguabox helps equip students with the necessary skills, resources and confidence to succeed in HSK tests and examinations.
