New direct flights to a tropical island

18 March, 2019 by Expat Living 2 Min Read

https://expatliving.hk/beach-holiday-vietnam-hong-kong-phu-quok-vietjet/

If a beach break is on your agenda – be it a romantic retreat or a family getaway – how about the up-and-coming Southeast Asian destination of Phu Quoc in Vietnam? You can now fly there direct from Hong Kong so it’s a great option for a short break.

Let’s look at what’s special about Phu Quoc?

Located 45 kilometres west of Ha Tien in the far south of Vietnam, it is the largest island in Vietnam. Don’t expect a super busy or super touristy place. Rather, it’s a sleepy island featuring secluded beaches and local markets. The coastline boasts fine sand and clear turquoise water – ideal for photos – and there’s a visa-free policy in place, which is great for making your travel planning a breeze.

Phu Quoc

Sao Beach

This curve of unspoiled sand bends out along a sea of mineral-water clarity. It’s just a few kilometres from An Thoi, the major shipping seaport at the southern tip of the island. You can spend your holiday time here on the beach, or take a boat trip to the An Thoi islands to the south for even more of an escape.

Bai Dai Beach

After an adventurous ride on a gravel road, you’ll arrive at this piece of paradise, said to be one of the best beaches in Vietnam. This is the definition of a tropical island escape: powdery sand, swaying palm trees and postcard blue waters, set against a jungle backdrop. It’s an ideal spot for travellers who’ve been longing for a relaxed retreat in unspoiled nature, with a quiet beach, yet still plenty of amenities for comfort.

There are plenty of coral reefs scattered throughout the area – you just need a snorkel and mask. Hiring a fisherman to take you to the main snorkelling spots is easy, and it’s bound to be a highlight of your holiday. There’s also a local village nearby where you can get a glimpse of how the locals live their lives. You can also catch a xe om (motorbike taxi) to look around and discover even more of the island’s sights. When the sun dips behind the horizon, take in the stunning sunset from the main beach.
