Where to propose in Hong Kong

It has one of the world’s most iconic skylines, dazzles with lights at night and is laced with lush greenery. In short, Hong Kong’s stunning sights provide many an ideal location for a memorable marriage proposal. If you’re planning to propose in the Fragrant Harbour, here are some suggestions for spots to begin a lifetime of happy memories.

The view from The Peak is a stunning setting day or night

The Peak

It’s hard to beat The Peak’s breathtaking views as a backdrop when it comes to picking a spot to propose in Hong Kong. Set the scene with the vintage tram ride to The Peak and head to the lookout where the city is spread out before you, or else take a stroll through the picturesque Victoria Peak Gardens, the formal European grounds of the governor’s summer residence. If you really want to take your proposal sky-high then head to the viewing platform of The Sky Terrace 428, which offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. The Sky Terrace 428 is open until 11pm at night if you’re considering an evening proposal.

Victoria Harbour

A quintessentially Hong Kong location for a marriage proposal would be on Victoria Harbour. One way to do it is on the famous Star Ferry. The green-and-white boats have criss-crossed the harbour for decades and have been the scene of many a Hong Kong proposal. A Star Ferry ride is fairly short, however, so if you want more time to build up to popping the question, you could consider hiring a sailboat or a luxury yacht and dropping anchor in a romantic cove when it comes time to get down on bended knee.

Ozone Bar

Did you know Hong Kong has bragging rights to the highest bar in the world? If you and your intended do not have a fear of heights, then the OZONE rooftop sky bar makes a great spot to propose! The stylish bar sits on the 118th floor of the The Ritz-Carlton Hotel and even has a small outdoor terrace if you fancy an alfresco proposal. This is definitely a good choice for those wanting a luxe location to pop the question.

A private kitchen offers an intimate option as a spot to propose

Private Kitchens

Hong Kong has a plethora of private kitchens, a result of the city’s high rents leading restauranteurs to set up businesses in cheaper residential premises. Dining in a private kitchen can tick a lot of boxes when it comes to a good location to propose. They usually provide quite an intimate experience as they tend to seat a small number of diners and many of the private kitchens boast chefs with impressive credentials who are at the forefront of innovative cuisine. The result? Your proposal dinner is likely to be quite special!

propose: The world-famous Peninsula Hotel

The Peninsula

Afternoon tea at the world-famous Peninsula hotel is one of the must-do experiences during any stay in Hong Kong. You don’t get a more memorable ambience for a proposal than in the elegant Lobby Lounge interior, against a backdrop of a live string group. Seating is first-come, first-served, so be prepared to queue.

propose on Cheung Chau's beaches

Outer islands

If you’re a nature lover, you may wish to make use of some of Hong Kong’s natural beauty for your proposal. Hop on a ferry and enjoy a romantic stroll along one of the beaches of outlying islands such as Cheung Sha in South Lantau, or head to Lamma Island and have a seafood meal overlooking the ocean as the sun sets.
