Tending your tresses in Hong Kong ain’t easy in summer. Pollution and humidity can take its toll, then throw in a few junk season ocean swims and it’s no surprise your hair may be feeling more straw than silk! Fortunately, there are number of hairdressers in Hong Kong who offer rescue remedies with some great hair treatments if your locks are in need of a bit of love, particularly if you are trying to fight the frizz.

Glow Salon

As the humidity increases, so can the size of your hair! The award-winning Glow hair salon and spa offers a range of smoothing and de-frizzing keratin treatments, perfect if you are dealing with unruly or unmanageable hair. Owner Sioban Guilfoyle says they have a variety of treatments which will have you with silky smooth and flawless hair in a matter of hours.

These include the Goldwell Kerasilk Control Treatment, which can transform unmanageable and frizzy hair and lasts for 12 to 16 weeks. Glow also offers the bhave XT treatment, enriched with keratin, argan oil, collagen and gylcolic acids – and without formaldehyde. It promises to soften curls, smooth waves and make hair easier to manage for up to four months.

Fans of the cult Brazilian Blowout will be interested to know Glow offers this treatment in an updated form. “The original smoothing treatment has had many incarnations that contained formaldehyde but has since been reformulated into a safer product whilst still offering superior smoothing and straightening results,” Sioban says. This can last up to four months.

A very special treatment on offer at Glow is the Ybera Discovery. “Discovery is the first keratin based on stem cells from the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple, which is a rare species of swiss apple with a highly regenerative power that recovers damaged hair from the very first application and transforms it into perfectly straightened hair for up to 6 months,” Sioban says.

And finally, if you have very curly hair and want poker straight locks, talk to the team at Glow about their Japanese Straightening treatment, also known a Ionic Straightening or Thermal Reconditioning. Glow are happy to offer a free consultation.

Emmanuel F.

This eco-luxe, one-stop natural organic hair and beauty concept since 2003 and award-winning day spa in Sheung Wan combines French panache with some Hong Kong pragmatism when it comes to offering hair and beauty treatments. With their emphasis on using certified organic cruelty-free products their hair treatments are natural and won’t compromise your health.

Emmanuel F. offers three tiers of hair care treatments – they have a scalp wellness massage treatment, a tailor-made standard ‘hair only’ treatment and their signature hair and scalp treatment. They also offer straightening and perming hair treatments, with an anti-frizz treatment, a keratin treatment, and a keratin semi-permanent treatment, which lasts up to seven weeks. The Anti-Frizz Hair Relaxing Treatment is enriched with plant amino acids, and nourishes and protects hair throughout the hair relaxation process. It is free from ammonium thioglycolate, ammonia, SLS and SLES, which are known to irritate the skin, nasal passages and weaken the hair. They take a gentler approach, using cysteamine hydrochloride, which mimics the cysteine amino Acid, helping to reform and strengthen the bonds within the hair. Emmanuel F. also can adjust pH levels, according to the hair type, making this Anti-Frizz Hair Relaxing Treatment suitable for use on any head of hair, even the most damaged.

DAZ Hair

DAZ Hair was founded in Hong Kong in 2013 – it had previously been The Hairdressers prior to moving location. DAZ director and founder Darrin Usher tells us about DAZ and the hair treatments they offer.

“We provide a wide range of hair treatments, from classic to creative and have a strong team for fashion and editorial,” Darrin says. “The DAZ team is made up of a diverse group and each have their own specialties ranging from classic cut and blow out, high fashion colour such as balayage, neon and dramatic blonde tone as well as more contemporary styling.

Darrin says while DAZ covers a wide range of treatments, they specialise in two areas – anti-frizz smoothing treatments and colour. “We are always on trend – if not ahead – with our products and techniques often importing products ourselves long before they hit the market here in Hong Kong.”

Darrin says DAZ has a highly international team, with stylists from Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Japan, London, Scotland, Norway, Hungary and Germany.

“Our diversity allows us to deliver the highest quality of service and cater to a much wider spectrum of clients,” he says. “The Daz team may be the most highly qualified team in HK and we love what we do. We have a very passionate, dedicated and diverse team who really take the time to listen and care about their clients. We don’t just follow trends but we work with individuals to bring out their best.”
