Hands up who hasn’t ended up at Happy Valley Racecourse on a Wednesday night? You can enjoy an electric atmosphere and some of the world’s best horse racing against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s evening skyline, beer in hand. And now the party atmosphere is set to get even better with the return of Oktoberfest to Happy Valley Racecourse. Head down to Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest for German food, folks and fun in the finest tradition of celebrating great Bavarian beer. The four-week party starts on Thursday, 5 October and continues on the next three consecutive Wednesdays, 11, 18 and 25 October.

Food & Beer

Given Oktoberfest is all about beer, it’s not surprising that there will be an impressive 14 beer brands to sample. Expect to find some of Germany’s finest brews such as Lowenbrau, Acrobrau Urfass, Paulaner, and Erdinger Weissbier and Erdinger Dunkel. And no Oktoberfest celebration would be complete without classic German snacks such as roasted pork knuckle with sauerkraut, German mustard hot dogs and pretzels!

Oktoberfest: How long can you Hold The Beer?
There’ll be plenty of games as part of Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest, such as Hold The Beer!

Fun & Games

The famous festival began some 200 years ago at a grand horse racing event in Munich so it’s entirely fitting that Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest is one of the biggest Oktoberfest celebrations in Hong Kong. There’ll be plenty of special entertainment on offer throughout the four-week party. Have a game of Beer Pong, or measure your strength in the Boxing Arcade. You can also test your endurance in a game of Hold the Beer, where competitors battle it out to see how long they can hold a litre of beer with straight arms. The opening night will feature traditional Bavarian music performed by musicians from Munich Notenhobler. There will also be live music from resident bands throughout the festival.

Parties & Prizes

Expect a carnival-like atmosphere of celebration throughout Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest. There’ll be heaps of prizes up for grabs in the Hold the Beer challenge and other games. You’ll also have the chance to win a pair of round-trip tickets from Hong Kong Airlines to Tokyo, Taipei and Ho Chi Minh City in the Best Photo Contest. Simply follow Hong Kong Airlines (@hkairlines) and Happy Wednesday (@happywednesdayhk). Then upload your photos with #HappyWednesdayHK, #GoRacingHK, #WherePartiesBegin and #HKAirlines on Instagram. Make sure you set your profile to public and check your IG inbox to see if you’re a lucky winner.

Don’t miss Happy Wednesday Oktoberfest, starting 5 October!
