If you work in Hong Kong, the chances are that you do a lot of business travel. An experienced tailor can help make sure you have quality, bespoke suits, trousers and shirts that will cope well with all those flights and meetings.
L & K Custom Tailors, Hong Kong can advise on the right garments required for a smart work wardrobe. Based in Tsim Sha Tsui, the company’s master tailors travel regularly to meet with their overseas clients. This means they not only understand the needs of business people who do a lot of work travel, but, once you have a relationship with them, they’ll always be able to look after you.
Established in 1990 by Michael Lalwani and Kenny Mirpuri, L & K Custom Tailors maintains a strong focus on fine craftsmanship and aims to offer top-class service to clients. Michael says: “Our fabrics are hand-picked and imported direct from the finest mills in England, France and Italy. They range from cottons and linens to superfine wools, worsted wools and cashmere blends. No other tailor-made suit or shirt in Hong Kong can compare, as ours are exclusively hand-cut and hand-made for our client’s particular tastes and measurements.”
Michael says that while approximately a quarter of their clientele is based in Hong Kong, the rest are overseas. “We’re global leaders, and we have clients in every prominent city in the world,” he says. As a result, their tailors travel extensively throughout the US, as well as many other countries including the UK, Australia, Europe, the United Arab Emirates, India and Singapore.
“We do this to keep our personal relationship with each client and to help them keep their wardrobe up to the mark,” Michael says. “We showcase new fabrics and styles for each season so our clients won’t miss out on any of the latest looks.”
Michael says they usually take two to three days to create a garment, but if it’s urgent they can provide same-day or 24-hour service.
As for great tips for packing for business travel, Michael suggests the following:
1. Stick to a dark colour palette as everything matches, and it also hides stains.
2. Two suits should be enough if you stay in a hotel with a laundry service. You can bring several shirts to mix and match.
3. Minimise creases by turning your suit jacket inside out and wrapping it around soft items in your suitcase
4. Use a belt to keep your shirt collar in shape.
5. Fill shoes with socks and underwear – this helps them keep shape and creates more room in your bag.
6. Roll clothing rather than fold – this helps minimise wrinkles and creates more space.
