Language courses for all the family

16 May, 2019 by Juliet Keys 2 Min Read

Whether you welcome people with a “Ni hao”, “Bonjour” or “Guten Tag”, being able to speak a second language is a hugely beneficial thing. Here, we find out about the language courses and camps offered at the Hong Kong Institute of Languages (HKIL).

Specialised courses

HKIL is now in its fourth decade of teaching languages to children, teens, adults, corporations and schools. Tuition is available in seven different languages – English, French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese – and the specialised courses are designed to help with every aspect of language learning, from preparing for language exams to meeting professional job requirements. According to the HKIL team, many students enrol simply because they see learning another language as a way to enhance their personal lives.

HK Kidz

HK Kidz is a dedicated kids’ arm of the institute, which provides a full range of courses from foundation to beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The school focuses on giving youngsters positive reinforcement to boost their confidence while strengthening their ability to communicate in a different language. Classes are delivered 100 percent face-to-face in facilities designed for children’s learning. A full range of courses is available after school and on Saturdays for all ages and levels, taught by qualified native teachers. Parents can opt for small group classes of four to eight, or tailor-made individual courses for their children.

There are specialised programmes for kids too, including a new French language foundation programme along with language camps during school holiday periods. The emphasis of the camps is to encourage children to speak as much as possible in the chosen language and become actively involved in each lesson. The French Foundation programme is a certificate course that can assist children with their applications to prestige Primary Schools that teach French as part of the curriculum. The course is designed for children aged from 4 to 12 years and aims to teach children basic French (Beginner 1 level) while enhancing their learning through teaching the fundamental aspects of the French culture, which makes it very educational too. While each lesson is structured around defined learning outcomes, the course is fun and engaging as children learn through structured creative activities that bring the language to life.

Special offer: During French May, the school is offering a special 10% discount off all French Courses.
