We discover a new household name that’s embracing the Scandinavian way. After 12 years working in marketing, Hygge Moments founder DAPHNEE O. found her calling in the recent surge towards sustainability. Labelling 2020 as a “year of awakening”, Daphnee set out to develop a brand that focused on wellness and warmth, with Scandinavian home décor and accessories that are both sustainable and organic. We find out more about the brand and take a look at two of the latest collections.
Achieving sustainable serenity the Scandinavian Way
Pronounced “hoo-guh”, the Danish word hygge encompasses the mood of cosiness and comfort. It’s a candle-lit bath after a long day, or cuddling your kids under the weight of a blanket on a frosty night. In essence it’s the fleeting moments in life where we feel utterly content!

“The Smell”
Designed to tackle our “throwaway culture”, this sustainable candle collection was developed in collaboration with local HK artist, Ping Ceramic. Consisting of a series of handmade ceramics, each vessel is made using hand-pinching and wheel-throwing techniques. The curved lines on each vessel, such as the Hold-Tight (HK$430) and Bear-Hug ($370) are inspired by the human touch people are seeking post-COVID, while the finishes and colours represent nature and its critical role in our mental health; you can opt for Sandy Spots, Deep Ocean, Blossom Pink or Rusty Soil.
Once you’ve picked your vessel, you can choose a refillable, 100 percent natural and vegetal scented-soy wax ($280). Made in France, this wax is GMO-free, sustainably packaged, and can burn for up to 55 hours with its lead-free cotton wick. Options include fruity Wild Fig with hints of the Mediterranean, Lebanon Cedar with spicy notes of sandalwood and patchouli, and Childhood Memory, with fresh and tender notes of jasmine, rose and cotton flower.
“The Touch”
Made with love by women in a rural village of Cambodia, this collection of warm and luxurious blankets and towels is 100 percent hand-woven, using an ancient technique passed down from generation to generation. As a result of the natural dye, the yarn is chemical-free and derives its colour from the natural ingredients, such as coconut for grey, sappanwood for terra, and colours from other materials such as jackfruit and leaves. Colours include Pine Green, Pastel Blush and Marble Grey. Prices start at HK$790 for towels and $890 for blankets.
