Horizon Plaza is a Hong Kong shopping institution on the island of Ap Lei Chau. Whatever you are looking for in terms of furniture, fashion and other lifestyle products you will find within the 28 floors. Word to the wise – get a directory at reception, head to the 28 floor and work your way down using the stairs. Here’s a selection of some of our favourite homewares retailers.
Fans of mid-century-style furniture and natural products will love the pieces at Organic Modernism. With origins in New York’s Brooklyn borough, the company’s founder wanted to take a more organic approach to affordable furniture design. Natural materials are employed, among them American walnut, white oak, marble and bronze, to create pieces inspired by the sleek lines of home furnishings from the 1950s and 1960s. The company has a showroom in Hong Kong where you can browse the large range of cabinets, chairs, tables, sofas, lighting and homeware inspired by the iconic styles of the era. Organic Modernism shares its vision with that of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, who once said that “nothing is a design until ordinary people use it”.
