In Hong Kong, Mother’s Day is celebrated in May, this year on 12 May. British expat mums are lucky – they get to double-down on the spoils of Mother’s Day. (They deserve it!) We are all probably guilty of taking Mum for granted from time to time, so Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to remind her that we really do know how fabulous she is. Here are some great gift ideas that might help our mums know how much we love them.
For bookworm mums
Is your mum an avid reader? We’ve found a beautiful gift for mums that are bookworms. TREE has just released a series of petrified wood bookends and they’re gorgeous. Each set has undergone a process where the wood’s cellular composition is slowly replaced with inorganic materials, transforming it into a hardened fossil with a beautifully petrified effect. Mum will love them!
Take her for brunch
This city is teeming with amazing brunches and Mother’s Day is no different. After you’ve made her breakfast in bed, treat her to a brunch she’ll remember. The DiVino Group (Spasso, DiVino Patio, Carpaccio) is saluting the most special women in the world with food, drink, gifts and love aplenty. Mums will be gifted with a Toni & Guy complimentary hair or scalp treatment voucher valued at HK$680 and there’ll be a Toni & Guy lucky draw prize too. You could really make mum’s day! Read our full list of great brunches here.
There are also Mother’s Day brunches on at Porterhouse (offering roses and special desserts for mothers), Ecriture (with flower gifts for mums), Kytaly, FEAST (with semi-buffet plus DIY lipstick workshop) and all the CORDIS restaurants, which will each offer something special for mums. While she’s at the Cordis, you could treat her to a special “It’s MUMday” head-to-toe treatment from the Chuan Spa.
Take her cruising for the weekend
Why not try a cruising staycation. What is a cruising staycation? It’s a weekend aboard the World Dream, a luxury cruise ship that departs Hong Kong Friday night, does a big lap of the ocean, and returns on Sunday. All you need is your HKID and off you go! There’s loads to do – lots of restaurants and gastronomic experiences, a spa, yoga classes, a fun family pool area with awesome waterslides and even a show. Importantly, there’s a kids club so mum will have time to read her book or have a glass of bubbly (or two) at the Champagne bar in peace.
