Where to get your brows and lashes done

Getting your lashes and brows into great shape can frame your eyes beautifully and do a huge amount for your appearance and confidence. Here, the team from Glow Spa & Salon Hong Kong runs us through some treatments that will make a difference – from microblading and eyebrow tinting to eyelash extensions and lifting.

#1 Microblading

Microblading is the art of creating ultra-fine, natural-looking hairstrokes for a thicker, fuller and more perfect brow. This cosmetic procedure is different from tattooing; rather, it’s a manual method of creating semi-permanent (to permanent) eyebrows. The pigment used fades slowly over 18 to 24 months, depending on your skin type, skincare regime and sun exposure.

Microblading is ideal for anyone who is struggling with thinning eyebrows, or who just wants a groomed look without makeup. However, there’s really nothing worse than badly done microblading! For a natural look, you need to choose a highly trained and experienced brow artist, like Glow’s Elizabeth Loennborn.

American-born Elizabeth has over 20 years’ experience in the beauty industry. As a National Artist and Trainer for Laura Mercier, she was trained by some great names in brows, including Mercier herself. As Hong Kong’s only specialist in the 6-D ultra-natural microblading technique, Elizabeth also offers ombré shading, soft-tap shading, feather-stroke, and the “Signature Brow” – a Hollywood favourite!

Book a free consultation and allergy test with Elizabeth and get advice on the technique and brow style that best suits you. Find out more at microbladinghk.com and glowspa.hk/microblading.

#2 Eyelash Extensions

Glow’s lash-genius Fei Ho has been working with lash extensions for more than 10 years and uses Japanese synthetic silk strand-by-strand lashes. With a selection of lengths, colours, curves and thickness, from natural-looking to glamorous, these lashes are almost weightless and very comfortable to wear.

Fei only uses techniques and products that support the health and strength of your own natural lashes – which is why she always gets amazing results for her clients.

Lash extensions give you instant length and instant impact. And, when applied and maintained correctly with surgical grade adhesives, they do minimal damage. Fei and fellow lash expert Kate Chan will do a thorough consultation and work with you to design the lashes that suit the shape of your eye and your lash strength and health to get the desired look.

Once you’ve determined your ideal length and curve, Glow’s Eyelash Extensions (90 minutes, $880), are applied by qualified Japanese-trained lash extension specialists. This is done strand by strand, using medical-grade and hypoallergenic adhesive.

#3 Lash Lift

Lash lifting has become a global phenomenon and a highly sought-after beauty service among lash lovers around the world. The treatment helps to opens the eyes, giving the appearance of longer, thicker, darker lashes – and it requires much less maintenance than eyelash extensions.

Glow uses the Elleebana Lash Lift (75 minutes, $980), a safe, formaldehyde free chemical process that breaks down the disulphide bonds of the hair to redirect the lash into a new lifted style. Elleebana was established in Australia more than two decades ago and has built a global following as a world leader in lash-lifting and eyelash-enhancing beauty products.

The semi-permanent treatment gives your natural lashes an illusion of being perfectly curled, with added definition. It’s a great alternative to eyelash extensions that really makes an impact but requires very little maintenance with long-lasting results.

#4 Lash & Brow Bundle: Brow Shape, Brow Tint and Lash Tint

Brow shaping is done with wax or tweezers, and it helps to give more definition to the eyes and frame the face. It can also balance crooked brows and groom thick fluffy brows. The effect lasts approximately four to eight weeks, depending on the hair-growth cycle. This is one of the first treatments girls (and guys!) choose to do when experimenting with personal grooming – and it can be a real confidence booster.

Eyelash and eyebrow tinting is a completely painless process that involves adding colour and shape to the eye area. Dark, full eyelashes and eyebrows are a popular trend right now, and they can make the eyes appear youthful, defined and sexy.

Tinting takes about 30 minutes and will last for between four and five weeks. Tints can be customised to be close to your natural hair colouring – this can range from honey brown to dark brown, grey and jet black. If you’re allergic to mascara and other makeup products, tinting allows you to go without mascara and still have beautiful, dark lush lashes; and eyebrow tinting gives you bolder, more natural looking-eyebrows while eliminating that “drawn-on” look.

Special offer: Glow is offering Expat Living readers its Revitalash Lash Serum for $980 (usually $1,180) and Revitalash Brow Serum for $780 (usually $980)
