Fred Hollows Humanity Award 2023
1 March @ 8:00 am - 15 May @ 11:30 pm
Founder of The Fred Hollows Foundation, Professor Fred Hollows, dedicated his life to helping and empowering others to help themselves and restoring sight to some of the world’s poorest people. The Humanity Award recognises students from Upper Primary Four to Six or aged 9 to 12 who lend a helping hand and give back to the community. The Award recognises compassionate students who put thoughts into positive actions and inspire our community to do more good.
Since 2012, the Award has acknowledged more than 3,000 primary school students in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
How can schools or parents nominate students for The Humanity Award?
The Award welcomes all P4 to P6 students (9 to 12 years of age) to enter. Both individual and group nominations are welcome – all nominations will be assessed together.
School principals, teachers, social workers, parents and guardians are encouraged to nominate more than one student or student group.
Each nomination should be accompanied by a submission showing how the student/s made a positive contribution to the community over the past year. Please provide information or images (if appropriate), to support the submission.
What are the award criteria?
Students should be able to demonstrate one positive action they have done for the community in the past year. The student’s actions should have brought positive impacts for society and demonstrated at least one of the values, upheld by founder Professor Fred Hollows:
– Action-oriented
– Show compassion, integrity and kindness
– Empowerment – help people to help themselves
– Collaborate with others to bring about change
What do Humanity Award participants receive?
Five Humanity Award Ambassadors will each receive a medal. Students with inspiring actions will be named as Students of Merit. All participants will receive a Fred Hollows Humanity Award Certificate to recognise their positive impacts.
Applications close on 15 May 2023 and the award ceremony will be held in early July 2023.
