How to get the royal treatment when buying your wedding dress

29 March, 2018 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

Looking for a wedding dress? Your special day will start the moment you step into the Rania Hatoum Bridal & Occasions studio. Sip on a glass of champagne as you search for the perfect bridal gown in a welcoming atmosphere.

Owner Rania Hatoum says ensuring customer comfort and satisfaction is the number one priority when visiting her studio, which stocks luxurious wedding gowns, as well as evening gowns, mother-of- the-bride, bridesmaids’ dresses and flower girl dresses.

“We believe wedding dress shopping should be a pleasant and memorable experience, which is why we do not charge brides for trying on gowns,” Rania says. “In fact, brides are allowed to try on as many styles as they like given their one hour appointment time, where they can also enjoy complimentary champagne or tea and bring along a few guests to enjoy the experience.”

A unique wedding dress shopping experience

Half Chinese and half Egyptian, Rania was raised in Hong Kong and completed her fashion degree in the US. She began working with a New York designer to get hands-on experience in the bridal and evening wear industry. Rania decided to create her own bridal collection in 2010 and has showcased her collections at New York Bridal week since then. She opened her first store in Florida in 2012. She then returned to Hong Kong and established her boutique here in December 2016.

“Moving back to Hong Kong in 2014 made me realise Hong Kong’s wedding gown shopping experience is very different from the US,” she says. “After visiting a few bridal stores in Hong Kong with my friends who were brides-to-be, I realised that experience isn’t nearly as pleasant. It was shocking to me how disappointing their service was and the ridiculous fees they were charging just to try on gowns.

“When I opened my store in Hong Kong my goal was to bring the US wedding dress shopping experience to Hong Kong. I wanted brides to have a memorable experience with the highest level of service and comfort for brides.”

Sizes and styles to suit all shapes

As Rania knows, there are so many factors to take into account when choosing your wedding dress! If you are planning a wedding here in Hong Kong, you need to consider climate. Or perhaps you are jetting off on a dream destination wedding? If so, you will need a dress that can travel. Looking for a specific style or size? Whatever your criteria, Rania Hatoum Bridal can help.

“We stock sample sizes from US 8–18 and we carry gowns in all styles, silhouette and colours,” Rania says. “We are able to customise a wedding gown from scratch according to the brides’ budget if they had a specific design or even mix and match from our current collection. There is no limit to what a bride can customise at Rania Hatoum.”

Rania says this season the big looks will be long sleeves, bell sleeves, corset tops, simple plain skirts with embellished bodices, with nude a popular colour. Rania says they also include a few pieces for destination weddings, which is an area of great demand, which are light and easy to pack.

“More and more brides are favouring destination weddings. We have been expanding our collection of light and flowy gowns that are perfect for travel,” she says.
