On the hunt for a new lippie? Here are some of our team’s all-time favourite lipstick brands and colours to inspire you.
Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon
“I’ve never been a big fan of a strong lipstick colour, but as I’m getting older I’m finding I need something with a little more punch. The Burt’s Bees lip crayon (US$18) in Napa Vineyard has been a great transition product for me. It’s moisturising with an intense colour payoff.”

Clinique Pop Lip Colour
“One of my favourite lip products is the Clinique Pop lip colour and primer in Plum Pop (US$36). It goes on smoothly and I love the colour, which isn’t too strong. Clinique’s lip glosses are also good and although the colours look bold in the applicator, they come out more sheer.”

Carlotte Tillbury Matte Revolution Lipstick
“I love Charlotte Tilbury’s Matte Revolution lipstick (US$34) in Pillow Talk. It’s an iconic nude-pink lipstick that enhances your natural lips. The matte formula consists of a lovely blend of moisturising oils, making it very easy to apply. You can get free shipping via Beautylish if your order is at least US$100.”
– Jacqui Young
MLBB Lipsticks
“I’m a huge fan of MLBB (My Lips But Better) shades and I think I found the perfect one for me, the Pat McGrath MatteTrance lipstick (US$43) in Venus in Furs! The shade is a medium-dark, rosy mauve with warm undertones that don’t wash me out. I love that it feels lightweight, creamy, comfortable on the lips and not drying, despite being matte. It’s very pigmented and quite long-lasting; I wore it to a friend’s wedding and one swipe lasted five hours. It’s not cheap, but I really think it’s worth the price. It comes in sleek packaging too!”

Sephora Lipsticks
“The Sephora Colour Lip Last lipstick (US$15) in Fresh Nude is the perfect pink-nudish shade for my medium-neutral skin tone. It stays on for at least six hours – even after a meal. Despite being very pigmented, it still feels comfortable on my lips. It’s a bonus that it also contains rosehip oil – so, no dry lips, even after it fades!”
– Siti Shahirah
“Trying to find lipstick that is the ‘right’ type of red was almost impossible – until I discovered the Sephora Collection Rouge Shine lipstick (US$14) in Under the Spotlight. The colour is almost translucent, giving the right amount of red with a glossy finish. I always have it in my handbag!”
– Kel Flanders
Astalift Tirabaci Lipstick
“I’m using the new Astalift Tirabaci lipstick (US$34). It’s easy to put on, stays on well and feels soft and moisturising. Made by Fujifilm, it has light-reflecting properties, which make the colour really rich. Love the magnetic close!”
– Danielle Rossetti
Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm
“For a natural look, I love Dior Addict Lip Glow Colour Reviver Balm (US$36) in pink. It’s a tinted balm that gradually reacts with the chemistry of your lips and brings out a natural rosy glow. It’s great for keeping your lips hydrated on the go as well as adding a pop of colour, and it lasts for ages.”
– Juliet Keys
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick
“I love the Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick (US$14) in Rum Raisin. The creamy texture moisturises your lips and the colour is pigmented. I’m not big on fire-truck reds as I find them hard to maintain when I’m out. Rum Raisin is a brownish red shade and it looks great on many of my friends’ skin tones. And with a name shade like Rum Raisin, what’s not to love?!”
