Making the right choices about your child’s education is daunting, but there is a wealth of expertise to draw on in Hong Kong. If you’re looking for guidance and advice, you won’t want to miss the AmCham International Schools Expo 2018 on 5 May. The new expo is an initiative of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham) in response to an overwhelming demand for comprehensive, quality information from expat parents about how to best educate and prepare their children for the future.
AmCham is gathering experts across the education spectrum to take part in the Expo to provide a one-stop and in-depth solution to answer questions and provide guidance to parents about international schools, curriculum choices and global education trends.
The organisation’s president, Tara Joseph, understands the pressures facing parents in Hong Kong. “The education landscape here is extremely competitive and a constant struggle for all parents concerned,” she says. “Choosing an international school or local school is a complicated decision, and the reliable information tends to be ‘scattered’ and hard to come by.”
Tara says the inaugural event will offer a 360-degree view of education from the needs of students, parents, businesses and future employers. Among the highlights will be the chance to hear from more than 20 renowned international school principals and senior educators in Hong Kong discussing school admission and the mandate of future schools. Different curriculum choices and examination models and their benefits will also be explored.
Prospective parents will no doubt relish the opportunity to listen to existing international school parents share their experiences on how to develop children both academically and psychologically. The Expo also aims to cover a broad spectrum of education needs, so child psychological experts will be available to share information about special needs children and the resources available to them.
Tara says the event will also look at global education and workforce trends. With research showing 60 percent of future jobs across all sectors will feature facets of the Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, AmCham has called on senior executives from leading companies to share insights on promising career paths for today’s students to consider.
