In the course of celebrating all things French, this year Le French GourMay brings us the cuisine and culture of Les Midi-Pyrenees. From traditional French-style markets to courses and tastings, there are plenty of activities to choose from. And be sure to check out all the specials on offer at the festival’s partner retailers – from wine shops to supermarkets. Le French May officially launched over the weekend with a three-day event at PMQ. This month-long festival is one of the largest cultural events of the year so we’ve put together a run-down of what’s on.
Wine, Oui Oui!
Join aficionados on May 9 for a French Food and Wine Walk from 2.30-6pm. Enjoy French wines, canapés and live entertainment and raise funds for local charity Fly High Foundation at the same time. On the 16 and 23 at Alfresco Lane, there are wine-pairing workshops, followed by a champagne tasting on the 27.

One of the highlights of the month, and a crowd favourite last year, the French Market at Stanley takes place the weekend of the 16/17 of May, 11am-6pm. For a grocery shop with a twist, experience a real French Market and enjoy traditional gastronomy at the seaside. Selected Le French GourMay participating merchants will be on hand to tempt shoppers with traditional French and Midi-Pyrénées delicacies: Cheese, “charcuterie”, fish, oysters, wine, pastries, Armagnac and much more!

On May 6, 13 and 20 Le French May comes to Happy Valley racecourse for three French-themed nights of racing and entertainment. Featuring Jo Bithume Company – 10 French musicians and dancers with their big brass band and percussion ensemble; Circa Tsuica Company – seven incredible performers combine the joyful sounds of a brass band with amazing and surprising acrobatics; and Gadjo Station, HK’s favourite gypsy-jazz ensemble.
On the 20 of May Le French May Trophy and the France Galop Cup, will be staged. Alongside the exciting races, the night will also be filled with spectacular French performances and delicious wines and cuisine.
