Where to stay on a family vacation in Hong Kong

Travelling with a baby and toddler is not generally that easy or enjoyable, but one British family, Neill and Jane Briggs, hit the jackpot when they stayed at the Hotel Icon, Kowloon.

Jane recalls “We travelled to Hong Kong for my husband’s work. With one baby who was only five weeks old, plus a 20 month old, I wasn’t sure how it would pan out – but he really wanted us all to join him. A colleague of my husband had recommended the Hotel Icon. He told us it was new, stylish and in a great location, so we made the decision to make the most of the trip and turn it in to a three-week stay, combining business with a family holiday.

When we arrived we really liked the design of the hotel and the staff that greeted us were great plus we had been upgraded to a suite – a huge help considering there were four of us. What impressed me the most was the thought that had gone into our stay.  Travelling with two babies is not easy but the team at the hotel really went out of their way to help and make our lives easier.

The room had been set up with all the equipment needed for travelling with a small baby, steriliser, bottle warmer etc. there was even a toy for my toddler daughter. Everyone from the concierge to housekeeping and restaurant staff were so accommodating. We ate daily in the Market restaurant (which has an amazing buffet, with lots of choice for adults and children) and again the restaurant manager was very accommodating, and if we missed breakfast he allowed us to take out.

When we first booked the trip I was very apprehensive of travelling all of that way with two very young children but it turned out to be such an easy place to be and Hong Kong has some great places to visit for families. We enjoyed the Peak and eating at ‘Bubba Gump’s’ and loved Repulse Bay. We also visited Disney, and although my daughter at 20 months was still a little to young to fully understand it my husband and I had fun! We ate in some really nice restaurants and they were all very accommodating towards young children. Hotel Icon was a fantastic place to stay, great location and amenities for children if we return to HK I would not hesitate to book there again.”
