When did you get married?
Saturday 19 October, 2013.

Who designed your invites?
My very good girlfriend and high- school friend, Suzi Mackay-Sim.

Why did you pick this wedding destination?
At the time, it was our hometown, so I think it had sentimental value.

Did you use a wedding planner?
No, we organised the whole affair ourselves.

What was the biggest expense?
Apart from the actual reception, our photographer, but she was well worth it.

What did you serve guests?
Guests were welcomed with hibiscus flower champagne and chefs canapés.

Entrée was a choice of pan- fried king prawns, avocado, mango with cress salad or twice- cooked pork belly, while for the mains it was poached granny smith apples and sautéed spinach.

Main: Grange beef tenderloin, potato rosti, roasted tomatoes, béarnaise sauce, port jus or pan fried Atlantic salmon with Asian greens, and XO sauce. For dessert we had wedding cake with coulis and cream.

Did you have any favours?
Yes, we had small glass jars with five sugared almonds and silver chocolate bonbons. The card on the jar read:

Five sugared almonds for each guest to eat
To remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.
Five wishes for the new husband and wife ––
Health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life!

Any complications with the marriage formalities?
Luckily enough, we had no issues with the marriage or registration and everything went smoothly.

Your top tips for any reader brides-to-be?
Hire a videographer, even if just for the speeches. Our best man rapped his speech, and we don’t have it recorded. I would love to see my husband’s speech again. If you can’t afford a videographer, then ask a friend to record the speech on their phone or camera. It will be worth it. Trust me.
