There’s heaps to celebrate about being single – you can go where you want, do what you want and when you get home you can watch whatever you want on Netflix! In the spirit of celebration, venues in Hong Kong are putting on Valentine’s Day events for the city’s singletons. We bring you a guide to some of the offerings where you can show Cupid that while his aim might currently be a little off, it doesn’t mean you can’t have a great night out.
“Are you lucky enough to be single this Valentine’s Day? Come join us and celebrate single life in style at Ophelia.” That’s the message from Hong Kong’s hottest bar, Ophelia, when it comes to the 14th of February. With its opulent interiors and exotic cocktails, Ophelia does nothing by halves and it is obviously continuing with that approach by holding an anti-Valentine event on Tuesday. Singletons can head down from 6pm.

The Wan Chai institution is offering a very cheekily named oyster special for Valentine’s Day, starting with a half dozen oysters for HK$149 and free flow champagne for HK$249. A DJ will play ’90s R&B to set the mood. For the single ladies, they will have Hong Kong’s most eligible bachelor bar team on duty, serving drinks prepared by a guest bartender. They are offering free drinks for single ladies who buy one of the bartenders a drink.

Fishteria is kicking off its new singles night this Valentine’s Day when the ground-floor cocktail and oyster lounge will become the scene of Best Catch Tuesdays. The new evening, which will become a Tuesday night fixture, aims to offer the city’s single ladies and gents a chance to socialise while enjoying their Oyster Hours (HK$10 for oysters from 5pm-7.30pm), free-flow Ayala Brut Majeur NV Champagne and handcrafted Bombay Gin and tonics for only HK$188 from 6pm-8pm. The lounge will play host to a fun series of dynamic ice-breaker games which offer the opportunity to mix and mingle alongside chances to win a dinner for two upstairs.

DiVino Wine Bar & Restaurant in Central is holding a “Sexy, Single and Ready to Mingle” night on Valentine’s Day. Celebrity pastry chef Jeffery Koo, who has recently returned from Paris, will treat diners and drinkers to a live chocolate painting performance on a human model. He has also created an exclusive ‘Golden Ring of Love’ dessert for the evening, each lady leaves with an artisanal lollipop and a rose, handmade heart-shaped chocolate bon bons are served with coffees, and a DJ will be playing smooth contemporary jazz throughout the evening.

Ok, so this is not strictly aimed at singles, but we figure Mrs Pound offering love life readings between 7pm and 9pm might be of interest to those singletons wondering when they might be getting coupled up. Navigate the secret entrance for a night of drinking love potions and hearing what the future holds.
