Fight the frizz with these 4 treatments

The Hong Kong humidity can turn even the most sophisticated-looking hair curly or frizzy. Glow Salon understands this and offers a number of treatments to help you handle summer in this city; owner Siobhan Guilfoyle takes us through four options for managing your mane.

You can keep your hair under control even when it's humid!

#1 Bhave Smoothe Plus

Bhave Smoothe Plus is suited to all hair types but is most effective on chemically damaged hair that is dry and porous. It’s a paraben- and formaldehyde-free treatment that works by the keratin penetrating the hair shaft where it’s able to bind damaged hair, restoring strength, elasticity and shine. As a result, the curls are softened and loosened, and wavy hair is smoothed. The wash-out treatment can last for up to five months with correct care.

#2 Goldwell Kerasilk Control

Improve the shape and body of your mane while reducing the frizz with Goldwell Kerasilk Control. This smoothing treatment provides several different options, according to how much curl, wave or body you want to remain. It also provides long-term colour protection. Using the newly formulated version of Kerasilk, with glyoxylic acid, this wash-out treatment can last up to four months and will reduce daily styling time.

#3 Ybera Professional Discovery

This Brazilian brand is found in high-end spas and hotels around the world. Its recently re-launched Discovery line is a keratin treatment based on stem cells extracted from a rare Swiss apple species. The new formula is 100 percent natural and doesn’t contain formaldehyde or chemical straightening ingredients. It’s a wash-out treatment that works directly on the weakest part of the hair shaft, repairing your hair by straightening and moisturising strands without damaging them. It lasts up to four months.

#4 Brazilian Blowout

This is a very popular alternative to permanent straightening as it delivers an outstanding result, and allows for body and volume to be retained while smoothing. It’s one of the best known of the keratin smoothing products and uses methylene glycol or formaldehyde solutions. If you want a Brazilian Blowout, choose a salon that uses the original product direct from the official distributor, and make sure the space where the treatment is applied is well ventilated, and that you and the stylist use appropriate protective masks. This chemical treatment is best suited to people with normal to thick locks who struggle with manageability. People with very damaged hair are advised not to have a Brazilian Blowout.
