Top tips for keeping your hair in shape

10 May, 2018 by Brooke Chenoweth 2 Min Read

Rennie Fensham is an award-winning hair stylist and make-up artist whose former clients include stars such as Rod Stewart and Liza Minnelli. We spoke to Rennie, Hollywood Hair owner and Glow Salon director, who shared some of her expert knowledge.

What’s your personal haircare routine?

Those who know me will understand that the best colour treatment for my hair is Goldwell Elumen, but that’s because I have purple hair!

Any new hair trends in 2018 that we need to know about?

The hair colours that are all the rage in 2018 are the metallics – both the golds and the silvers are in demand across salons in the US and Europe, and we will see this trend on the streets of Hong Kong this year. This metallic look for hair will also be carried across to makeup looks, with glitter and metal shades taking the catwalk by storm. Dirty blonde with golden tones is taking over in 2018, too – a departure from last year’s desire for blonde to be as white as possible.

Also, 80s style is back with a vengeance! Personally, I loved the 80s – this is the era when I discovered my passion and talent in the hair and beauty industry, and I developed and honed my skills at fashion shows, on TV sets, at music events and as personal stylist to VIPs and celebrities while working and training in the US. In 2018, you should expect to see upgraded versions of popular 80s styles hitting the catwalks, the on-trend blogs, Instagram and YouTube.

Finally: curls and texture. If you have curls, flaunt them – the bigger and shaggier, the better in 2018. Accessories are making a comeback too, from ribbons and headbands to clips and hair rings.

What are your top tips for keeping your hair in shape?

If all you ever do is use a salon-quality shampoo and conditioner, then you’re on the right track. At Glow, we’re using the Davines and Bhave range of shampoos and conditioners to make sure our clients’ hair is in top shape and looking fantastic.

I have thinning hair and I choose to address the problem by using the Joico Cliniscalp range. Thinning hair is a common problem in Hong Kong, and this range is designed to rescue hair in advanced stages of thinning by increasing the oxygen supply to the scalp and delivering a mega-dose of nutrients to the hair follicles, helping to create an optimal scalp environment for healthier, thicker-looking hair.

What’s your favourite Glow treatment?

I am seriously impressed by the new Smooth XT by Bhave, a hair-smoothing treatment that has just launched in Hong Kong. At Glow Salon, we’ve been delighted by the performance of Bhave products, and they continue to impress. With Smooth XT, we’ve seen magnificent results that easily compete with other industry-leading products. I predict this will be one of the most popular smoothing treatments to tackle the HK humidity in 2018.

Glow Salon is at Parker House, 9/F, 72 Queen’s Road Central. 2525 5198 | glowspa.hk/
