Things to do this weekend in Hong Kong

Now all those independence day parties are over and everyone is back from the long weekend here’s what Hong Kong has in store for us all this weekend:

TakeOut Comedy All Stars Weekend

The TakeOut Comedy Club Hong Kong is the first full-time comedy club in Hong Kong, China and Asia. This weekend sees a special two-night all-stars show featuring the best and brightest standup comics in Hong Kong. Wind down from the weekend and get those abs working from all the laughing you’ll be doing. Tickets costs $250.

Where: Basement, 34 Elgin Street, Soho

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

One of our favorite childhood stories is hitting the stage this weekend, and if you don’t know the storyline here’s what to expect: Dorothy and her dog Toto are swept away by a tornado to a fantastical faraway land. In a bid to return home, Dorothy travels to the Emerald City to seek help from the Wizard of Oz. Her journey is joined by Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion. Fun for all the family and reasonably priced with tickets starting at $140, get yours here.

When: 8 – 10 July

Where: Hong Kong Cultural Centre (Grand Theatre)10 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon

Lamma Island Beach Cleanup

Unfortunately, now the tides have turned, more and more trash is washing up onto our beaches. As a community let’s all put our hands together for a quick sweep of the sand, and do our best to make HK’s beaches clean again. Bin bags and gloves are provided, and smiles and laughter come as standard. Invite all your friends and spend the rest of the day on the beach or wandering around Lamma.

When: July 9, 10:30am – 12pm

Where: PowerStation Beach, Lamma Island

Sheko Challenge – 12th Annual

This beach-to-beach swim, of approximately 2.2km with a mountain run, and a paddle category (OC1 or Surfki only) will certainly test your stamina. You can combine the times of your runner, paddler and swimmer to form a team time or you can swim solo. All events start at the same time, and end at the same place – so this is called a Trisolothon, not a Triathlon (you only do one of the three sports). Think you’ve got what it takes? Sign up here.

When: July 9, 1 – 6pm

Where: Big Wave Bay Beach, Sheko

Raising Your Kids Safely In A Digital World

A talk designed for parents interested in learning how to safely raise your child in a world run by technology. The session will provide parents insight into how youth are using technology, methods to monitor internet and device usage, and the importance of both parental and child digital literacy. It’s free to attend, so pop in if you are around Sheung Wan this weekend.

When: July 9, 1 – 2pm

Where: 18/F, Fu Fai Commercial Centre, 27 Hillier Street, Sheung Wan

We’ve certainly got a busy week ahead – and that’s only a few of the events – take a look at our Calendar to see more going on each day.
