Bold flavours and fresh produce served in a cosy and eclectic space sums up what My Tai Tai is all about. The restaurant’s mission is to offer beautifully authentic Thai food in the heart of Hong Kong, and after our recent visit it’s safe to say they have succeeded.
Executive chef Amphon Phoomphookieo spent time in different regions across Thailand to learn about the myriad dishes of his homeland. Amphon is best known for his previous work at the Aberdeen Marina Club’s Balcony Thai restaurant, and My Tai Tai is the result of his collaboration with celebrity chef Harlan Goldstein, in the dining concept at 8 Lyndhurst Terrace.
To start our meal we shared the Isaan-style minced chicken salad ($110) and Japanese taraba crab and green mango salad ($128). Both were light and packed full of flavour. Next came two more substantial offerings: organic chicken in green curry ($138), which was as authentic as you get, followed by steamed black cod ($268), a standout and absolutely delicious.
All of our lovely food was paired with equally delicious wine, and the cocktails looked very good too. The staff made sure we were looked after; they were very welcoming and attentive. So if you’re seeking a cosy dining spot for two and don’t want to stray too far from town, this is a great venue. And once you’re done, if the night is still young, you’re just a hop, skip and a jump away from the bustle of Soho.
