While International Women’s Day was celebrated in March, there are a host of fundraising activities happening in April and May to support some great women’s organisations.
Sundowners by the Bay
Looking for that perfect holiday ensemble for the great Hong Kong exodus this summer? Revamping your fitness gear for a run in the country park? Or do you just need a new outfit for a swish Sunday junk or barbecue? Sai Kung Pink Ladies are hosting their next outdoor fashion show on 13 May at Hebe Haven Yacht Club, with local fitness trainers strutting their stuff on the catwalk for the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation. Tickets for the fun evening of fashion and fitness start at $270 and include a two-course set dinner and a glass of bubbly. Among the sponsors are Escapade, Polkadot Boutique, Zenvara, House of Kamal, Edge of Desire, Desert Diamonds, Day with Fe, Dirty Dog, and Phat Shack. Women of Hope
Launched in 2014, the Women of Hope campaign raises funds for the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation (HKAHF), which aims to get timely medical care to those who don’t have access to it. To celebrate the first anniversary of the campaign, the HKAHF has introduced a series of awards to honour inspirational women in Hong Kong who make significant contributions to society. You can support the campaign by purchasing a Gift of Hope bracelet, designed by Janne Poulsen of House of Kamal. The Hope Bracelet retails for HK$750, and is available for purchase online.
Close to the Heart
Bras are a daily necessity that we often take for granted. They are also the least donated clothing item for underprivileged women! Hong Kong’s lingerie specialists Sheer have collected and distributed over 2,800 pre-loved bras since 2013. Their spring bra drive runs until 12 April, and bras collected will be donated to charities that care for and protect refugees and victims of slavery, trafficking and abuse. Donate your unwanted bras by dropping them off in store or posting them, and enjoy 15 percent off a new bra purchased in-store or online. How’s that for sheer generosity?
