Tell us a little bit about yourself: I grew up in London and completed my BA in Early Childhood Studies while working in various childcare settings in the UK. I moved to Hong Kong in 2005 and completed my PGDE in Early Childhood Education, my Masters in Education Management and the Kindergarten Principal’s Certificate. I’ve worked as a kindergarten teacher and in kindergarten management, in both local and international kindergartens over the last 12 years. I absolutely love living and working in Hong Kong, not only because of the bright lights, the bustling yet beautiful surroundings and the multicultural spirit, but because of the clear importance and focus put onto early childhood education, it has given me a renewed sense of purpose in my career.

Describe the approach at Mount Kelly: Mount Kelly International Preschool forms part of Mount Kelly School Hong Kong, the city’s first British Preparatory School. The preschool will enjoy strong links with Mount Kelly School in England, a day and boarding school. The preschool follows the UK Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and there is a great focus on each child as a unique individual, as well as building positive relationships. We understand the need to allow for discovery and that children learn best through play and experiences. Therefore, we foster the all-round development of the child, with the support of highly qualified, committed and naturally caring teachers. Children that join us at Mount Kelly International Preschool will have priority access and a place at Mount Kelly Preparatory School in Hong Kong, but ultimately we will provide a secure, safe and happy environment for the young learners that enrol with us – the foundations for their future learning!

What features have been designed or built into the campus to keep the little ones engaged and excited about school? The innovative, child-centred and natural design of the preschool will feature two vast indoor playgrounds to cultivate children’s natural desire to move, dance and play. We believe strongly in ensuring children have a chance to play outside in natural areas, and will be arranging outdoor adventure experiences for them using local community facilities, as well as the Mount Kelly Play Centre at the Preparatory School in Hung Hom Bay.

What are you most looking forward to in the first school year? Meeting and getting to know the families that are starting their learning journey with Mount Kelly, and hearing the children chatting and laughing as they engage with the learning spaces that we have carefully designed. There’s not much more satisfying than listening to children play!

Mount Kelly International Preschool is expected to open in September 2017. For more information, visit
