Horizon Plaza is a Hong Kong shopping institution on the island of Ap Lei Chau. Whatever you are looking for in terms of furniture, fashion and other lifestyle products you will find within the 28 floors. Word to the wise – get a directory at reception, head to the 28 floor and work your way down using the stairs. Here’s a selection of some of our favourite homewares retailers.

Everything Under The Sun

If you are among the Hongkongers lucky enough to have a garden area, balcony or access to a rooftop space then drop into Everything Under The Sun for all your outdoor living needs. Their Horizon Plaza showroom has South East Asia’s largest selection of designer and exclusive outdoor furnishings and accessories. Browse a wide range of outdoor lounge settings, chill-out chairs and dining tables and chairs to suit different decors. They also stock shade umbrellas, awnings, sun loungers, outdoor bar arrangements and barbecues, as well as accessories for entertaining. It’s the perfect place to pick up outdoor living products that are both stylish and durable. The latest looks from top manufacturers such as Gloster, Tribù, Tuuci, Cane-line, Extremis, Oasiq and Royal Botania are now in store.

TREE

The flagship store of this eco-chic furniture and homewares retailer sprawls across the 28th floor. Launched over a decade ago, this store has built a reputation for becoming a one-stop destination for eco-wood furniture, cosy sofas, naturally stunning finishing touches and much more. TREE’s showroom is filled with an extensive range of stylish and sophisticated designs to suit every home interior. It also has chemical-free, durable children’s furniture. And best of all, there is a café for a caffeine fix to fuel up before tackling the rest of the shops, with a play area for the kids.

Okooko

A Maori phrase for “cradle in arms”, Okooko specialises in comprehensive sleep systems for both adults and children. It takes a scientific approach to achieving sound sleep but also believes your bedroom should be your sanctuary. The result is bedroom products, from furniture and mattresses to linens, that strike a balance between comfort and wellbeing and looking and feeling good. INDIGO Living

This fashionable, upscale retailer has been a mainstay in Hong Kong home furnishing for some time. Their passion for creating beautiful interiors is evident throughout their stock, with an array of styles as diverse as glam Hollywood regency to Hamptons beach house. The overriding sensation when you walk through their showroom is of elegance, quality and luxury. In addition to furniture, they stock everything you need for home decorating, including flatware, drinkware, table linen, vases, cushions, mirrors and rugs. They also have an outlet store on the 10 floor.

Tequila Kola

This emporium has legendary status as a decorator’s paradise, stocking a plethora of unique furniture, fabric and accessories. If you are looking for inspiration, pay a visit to their flagship first floor Horizon Plaza store. You will find striking living room, bedroom and dining room displays in signature styles, guaranteed to give you guidance on dressing your home. Whether your taste is Modern British, Ibiza Bungalow or Floridian Dream, you will find something that suits – and they can custom-make to your specifications. Don’t miss their outlet on the 17th floor.

Oriental Home

This store stocking Chinese and Tibetan furniture and accessories is the perfect place for expats to find pieces that will be a great memento of a stint in Hong Kong. With a showroom sprawling over 10,000 square feet, Oriental Home offers genuine art and antiques, as well as reproductions. Antiques are painstakingly restored by skilled craftsmen, who dismantle pieces to check for damage or woodworm before treating the piece and putting it back together. In addition to reproductions on display, the store also offers a service where they will custom-make copies of pieces.

SONDER Living

The global home furnishings and lifestyle store SONDER Living is an exciting new addition to Horizon Plaza. The newest SONDER gallery will cover 12,000 sq ft with a huge array of celebrated designer brands on offer, such as Andrew Martin and Tracey Boyd’s Boyd, and sustainable design pioneer Thomas Bina. Also available will be lighting by Nellcote Studio, wall art by Coup&Co., and design-led home accessories ranging from table top and candles to exquisite handmade pillows and throws. British handcrafted leather furniture brand, Timothy Oulton, also has a concession in the showroom.

OVO Studio

If you have an appreciation for the quirky and offbeat, make sure you pay a visit to OVO Studio. From cute cushions emblazoned with doggie portraits to arresting statement pieces such as striking silver wall art or a bright red Yoda occasional chair, this is the place to find that piece that will showcase your interior design flair. The store features furniture and homewares from around the world, with collections including lighting, rugs, beds, sofas, cabinets and shelves and home accents.

CarpetBuyer

If there is one surefire way to lift a room in a single step, it’s with a rug. And they are also very handy portable decorating items for expats who may be moving frequently. CarpetBuyer specialises in modern rugs and Persian carpets. Their Horizon Plaza store has 3000 sq ft of rugs and carpets, from classic Persians, to vintage William Morris style rugs or soft and silky shaggys. They are currently in the midst of a massive relocation sale with up to 50 per cent off.

INSIDE

INSIDE is the perfect shop to find something for that friend or relative who has everything. There is a huge range of stylish homewares, such as candles, ceramics and cushions, in exquisite styles and fabrics which make luxe gift items at reasonable price points. There is also a select range of fashion, such as cashmere robes and leather totes, and cute pieces for kids – think retro mini suitcases and classic sleepwear. The store also carries larger furniture pieces.

Aluminium

Aluminium blazed a trail back in 1999 when it began importing designer chairs which were snapped up by style-savvy customers. From there it has built a reputation for stocking stylish and alternative designer furnishings, lighting and home accessories to cosmopolitan private customers and interior designers. You will find items from Aluminium in places such as The Parisian Macau Hotel, the Aberdeen Marina Club and even the odd movie! They stock a range of original European furniture and lighting brands. Expect to find Vitra, Herman Miller, Kartell, Magis, Hay, Artemide, and Verpan.

Infurniti Homes

Infurniti specialises in wooden furniture with clean lines and classic furniture with a contemporary twist. The signature collection showcases how they use traditional craftsmanship techniques to create pieces which are then adapted to suit the needs of modern living. Established in 2003, Infurniti is experienced in creating furniture which is properly sized for Hong Kong homes. They also stock a huge range of accessories and lighting, making it a great option for turning your house into a home.

Le Carpet Studio

Whatever type of carpet or rug you are looking for to give your room an instant lift or tie a look together, you are bound to find something to suit at Le Carpet Studio. If you are looking for a piece of Chinese furniture for your home, the team at Old Shanghai specialise in creating authentic pieces using recycled wood and constructed with traditional methods without the use of screws and with a pure wood finish. Browse the showroom to also see their range of contemporary furniture. They create their own designs and can work with you to customise pieces in sizes and colours you prefer. They can also help bring your own designs to life.

NestNordic

Fans of the clean lines of Scandinavian furniture should make a beeline to the Horizon Plaza showroom of NestNordic. They have collections for living, dining and sleeping areas, as well as for storage and hallway – vital for making good use of all spaces in Hong Kong homes. They also have a great range of decorative accessories. Their staff are more than happy to advise on how to mix and match pieces to create your dream home.
