A new premium online grocer is offering top quality imported and farm-fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as meat and seafood, all sourced from international and local high quality suppliers.
The Fresh Supply Company is the result of a partnership between Jonny Kan and Yan Hui Chang, who met while at college in the US. Jonny, a Hong Kong native, and Chang, who grew up in Singapore, found themselves both working in Hong Kong where the opportunity presented to direct sell fresh produce imports.
‘Our business ethos is that a premium selection of fresh imported and farmed produce should be available at a discounted price, without a discount on quality,’ Chang says.
From an initial offering of fruit and veggies, they have recently expanded to include meat and seafood and are now offering more than 500 products.

Customers sign up to the service on their website and can then browse their range of products, either making their own selection or ordering a subscription crate of selected products.
Once an order has been placed, customers receive email confirmation and the order can be picked up at their premises in Wong Chuk Hang or they can be home delivered at a convenient time.
‘Our products are predominantly international, from the US, Europe and Australia,’ he says.
‘And then we source things that don’t travel well from local farms or organic growers.’
Products are chilled or refrigerated to ensure quality.
“The problem is people in Hong Kong are used to a poor standard of quality when it comes to a lot of the groceries that have been traditionally available,” he says.
‘Our products are fresh as they are supplied straight from the source and do not spend time sitting in a warehouse or in transit for extended periods.
‘Our service also allows customers to be fully informed of the origin of their food.
“We provide only the freshest produce – if the quality is ever below our exacting standards, we’ll have it replaced.”
The company is able to be competitive on price as they’re not paying high rent for a shop front.
“Unlike other concierge shopping services, we do not charge a delivery fee [for orders over HK$400],” says Chang.
“What we save on unnecessary rent and transportation costs, we pass on to our customers.”
From little things, big things grow
The company is constantly developing the services they offer and recently launched recipes on their website.
“It’s a very exciting development for us – our new path is trying to sell the recipes that we can pair the products with,” he says.
They are also expanding beyond fresh produce into partnerships with vendors, such as a coffee roaster and a beer brewer.
“We like to think we are part of the whole grower experience,” he says.
Hosting a Thanksgiving or Christmas feast? Fresh Supply are also offering seasonal specials, such as turkeys and are planning Christmas boxes and hampers with some of their vendors.
It’s no wonder the company has built up a loyal customer base in a few short months.
“We get a lot of repeat customers – the customer loyalty is really fantastic,” Chang says. “It speaks to the quality of the produce.”
