AMANDA CLARK, Managing Director of Altfield Interiors, shares some of her current favourite home design ideas, from wall decoration and textiles to drapery designs and where to buy upholstery and home accessories.
“Prior to arriving in Hong Kong, I worked in an interior design studio in London,” says Amanda. “I’ve always felt that creating spaces in which to live, entertain and flourish is a truly important part of our lives. When we started Altfield about 40 years ago, there were few options in Hong Kong for upholstery, drapery and home design in general. It’s been a wonderful experience bringing so many international brands to this market as it has matured and grown.”
Amanda on new home design ideas for 2024
#1 Upholstery
The fabulous new upholstery collection from Pollack features a fresh young American style with contemporary patterns.
#2 Drapery design ideas
Jim Thompson’s 2024 collection includes striking drapery designs and images. There’s nothing like silk for elegance – it’s one of nature’s gems (and it’s also inherently fire retardant).
#3 Wall decoration options
These fabulous wall murals are from one of the top Italian wallcovering brands, CO.DE by JV. An accent wall can transform any space, and these wall decorations are an excellent price.
#4 Lighting
Vaughan Designs of London create some wonderful table lamps.
#5 Home accessories
There’s an amazing range of custom throws and blankets from Italian company Loro Piana. They last a lifetime and are simply exquisite – and they can also be one of a kind!
More home design ideas and tips
I encourage anyone working on a new property or just refreshing a room or two to spend time looking through home design ideas in magazines or on Pinterest to create their own ‘dream box’ of images that strike a chord with them. And then come to the showroom. With those images as guidance, our team – which includes two trained interior designers – can really help them find the look they’ll love.
Being surrounded by designs from so many global brands – including the amazingly different styles of textiles from Rubelli, Armani Casa and Loro Piana Interiors from Italy, Maison Pierre Frey from France, the Colefax & Fowler Group from England, and Maya Romanoff and Weitzner from the US – in every colour under the sun for a morning or afternoon in the showroom is a world away from a flat image on a screen. The textures, shades, sheen and weight are simply not possible to gauge from photos alone.
