Helper raise, mandatory 2.5% FDH salary hike, Hong Kong

She’s your right arm and the glue that holds your lives together. You don’t know what you’d do without her. Her efforts are recognized today with an official 2.5% salary raise  for foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong.

Effective 1 October 2014, the Minimum Allowable Wage (MAW) for foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong has been raised by 2.5%, a $100 increase from $4,010 to $4,110 per month for contracts signed from today onward.

Employers who also pay a separate monthly food allowance will be required to increase the amount by $44 to $964 per month, an increase of 4.8% from the previous minimum standard of $920 per month.

While many of us exceed the minimum monthly salary compensation with regard to our maids for the very reason that we are so thankful for all they do, today is a good day to review our existing contracts and offer a salary bump to recognize their efforts and service.
