One of the toughest parts about transitioning into a serviced apartment is the lack of facilities some serviced apartments in Hong Kong offer. This is especially true for those who’ve been living in a home with access to a pool, gym or open space for the kids to play in. That’s why TOWNPLACE caught our eye this month. This new residence, developed by a residential leasing brand under Sun Hung Kai Properties, offers apartments in two locations – SOHO and Kennedy Town. There are serviced apartments (SOHO only), as well as furnished and unfurnished units with all the facilities we’re used to in the city’s larger apartment complexes, but with month-to-month flexibility. And right now, that’s a very appealing offer.
A place to entertain
It’s not often we see a serviced apartment that feels like a place where you could entertain. TOWNPLACE has one of the highest social spaces on Hong Kong Island, offering impressive panoramic harbour views. Nothing says sundowners with friends more than a balcony with that view! There are barbecues and sink facilities, too, so you can settle in for an evening meal and watch the city lights sparkle.
For those who wilt in Hong Kong’s steaming summer months, there’s the Seaview Lounge a few floors down. This space has floor-to-ceiling glass that shows off an equally impressive view, along with air-conditioning for a cooler social experience.
Together, these facilities are referred to as Duo Social Space and they extend to a pool, sundeck, gym, sauna, spa and even a wellness terrace. It’s everything you would expect in a larger residential building on the Island. For the Duo Social Space, it doesn’t matter which building you reside in, you’re able to access all the facilities. This means those living in the Kennedy Town flats are able to use the SOHO facilities, and so forth.
A place to work (and play…)
For those working from home or executing flexible work schedules, this looks like a solid option. It offers an indoor-to-outdoor co-working space with almost everything you need to get the job done. The area is equipped with free and stable high speed Wi-Fi, a phone booth for private calls and multi-purpose social spaces to get to know other tenants. Of course, no co-working space would be complete without a foosball table and a patio for brainstorming sessions!
Design credentials
This residence offers accommodation at scale, with two convenient locations in the heart of bustling Hong Kong and a total of 421 apartments in their inventory. The configurations range from smart studios to more spacious four-bedroom apartments. The first property to open was in the sought after, gentrified neighbourhood of Kennedy Town in late 2018. 2020 sees the launch of the brand’s SOHO premises, the heart of Hong Kong’s dining and art scene.
In more good news, the business’s scale hasn’t impacted design choices. The apartments are furnished by three home design brands that are very popular in Hong Kong. One option is sustainable brand TREE, another is the award-winning Stellar Works, and a Japanese Minimalism approach by Francfranc.
The new TOWNPLACE apartments in SOHO are a great option for those who want to stay in the thick of Hong Kong. This location also offers the work-life balance elements of the Kennedy Town residences. Here, they also have tailored zones for work and play. Designers have purposefully placed elements of green throughout the building, from the entrance to the rooftop wellness terrace. This means guests can use their apartment as an oasis in the city. There’s even a swimming pool – not too common in this part of the city.
For both locations, there’s a tenant-exclusive TOWNPLACE app. This is used for engaging hospitality services or reserving the Duo Social Space across both facilities. You use the app as your room key, too, or to distribute a QR Code Pass for visitors and other smart-living provisions.
Lease flexibility
Flexi-leasing options are popular in Hong Kong right now and not many residences have this option. TOWNPLACE offers flexi-leasing options at both Kennedy Town and SOHO locations. The minimum leasing term is just one month. This makes it a great short-stay options for expats and our visiting families. There are also longer-term options, in the form of one-year and two-year leases. Some apartments are available unfurnished.
