Time Out by Yo Chow
20 May - 17 June
Emerging local artist Yo Chow makes her debut solo exhibition, titled “Time Out,” at Karin Weber Gallery. With a background in Sports Coaching and Visual Arts, Chow’s focus naturally revolves around sports. Exploring the concept of a “timeout” in sports, where players rest, strategise, make substitutions, or boost morale, Chow sheds light on various issues, including the lack of respect and low pay for homegrown athletes in Hong Kong, as well as the city’s inadequate sports facilities. Additionally, the exhibition delves into universal concerns such as the commodification of athletes, doping, cheating, and biased refereeing. On a personal level, Chow shares her troubled past and how basketball became her solace during her teenage years. Her artwork, Ball Instrument, embodies her passion for basketball, using various balls transformed into globes. Through her art, Chow seamlessly bridges the perceived gap between sports and art, infusing both with energy and a distinctive individuality.
