Shrewsbury International School: Creating Bookworms in the Digital Age
24 January @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Shrewsbury’s “Bring a Friend” series presents Creating Bookworms in the Digital Age hosted by acclaimed author and reading advocate Sarah Brennan.
The ability to read is one of the most important life skills we can instil in our children to help them understand the world around them. Reading for pleasure is crucial to the development of ‘soft skills’ such as creative thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to empathise which are essential to nurturing intelligent, caring, well-rounded young minds. At a time when screens dominate and attention spans dwindle, how can we guide our children to acquire a deep love of the written word?
Award-nominated author and mother of two Sarah Brennan has written and spoken extensively on ways of engaging children in stories. Her expertise comes both from what she has learned over 20 years as a picture book writer, working with students in schools in Hong Kong and around the world, and techniques she implemented with her own daughters.
Head along for an enlightening hour of tips, suggestions and conversation on raising children who love to read. Shrewsbury parents who bring a friend will be given priority seating, as will parents of prospective students. Click here to register.
