Picasso and Jacqueline Exhibition – Times Square
26 February @ 10:00 am - 21 March @ 10:00 pm
Don’t miss the opportunity to view masterpieces by legendary Spanish artist Picasso being exhibited for the first time outside of Spain, when the Picasso and Jacqueline Exhibition comes to Hong Kong’s Times Square. The exhibition, which is being presented by Times Square together with the Museu Picasso in Barcelona, will show 13 pieces of artwork that Picasso dedicated to his last wife, Jacqueline. The Picasso and Jacqueline Exhibition will be held in the Living Room Museum of Times Square.
Jacqueline was Picasso’s last lover and his second wife and he made her the focus of many of his artworks in the later part of his life. A feature of the portraits of Jacqueline series in this exhibition is that Jacqueline conveys such a special impression in the paintings that she carries a solitary face or a nostalgic expression, seemingly suggesting a state of looking into the distance or musing, which is totally different from the women Picasso painted before. Jacqueline simply looks calm and focused in Picasso’s paintings no matter how she was portrayed. Moreover, her head on her long neck always appears to be looking around or show a combined personality as her face seems to possess contours of a man and a woman, fusing to form a kiss.
The 12 artworks (linocuts) in the exhibition were finished in 1962 using the linoleum printing technique – and are colourful and exquisite masterpieces inspired by cubism. The oil portrait of Jacqueline on canvas is a piece that belongs to the artist’s unique complete series that can be found in the Museu Picasso in Barcelona. The series consists of 58 paintings that Picasso produced in 1957.
