Opera Gallery Summer Exhibition: Taher Jaoui & George Morton-Clark
4 September - 30 SeptemberFree
This summer, Opera Gallery will be showcasing the works of contemporary artists Taher Jaoui and George Morton-Clark. The two artists take inspiration from street art, Abstract Expressionism, cartoons, and graffiti, while using oil paint, spray paint, charcoal, and acrylic to create bold and large-scale works.
Tunisian artist Jaoui uses different forms of inspiration spanning from cartoon and graffitti-like drawings to Abstract Expressionism and Primitivism movements. Joining together painting and drawing in colourful compositions that are both abstract and figurative, he often uses semi-figurative elements such as heads, legs, eyes and hands.
British artist Morton-Clark draws inspiration from the subconscious and his works explore the darker side of humanity and modern society. He combines familiar cartoon character cut-outs, gestural lines and abstract colour blocks to create provocative images that are a mix between Pop and abstract art.
