Exhibition: The Awakening by Claire Lee
14 October, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 11 November, 2017 @ 8:00 pmFree
In celebration of its second anniversary, CHARBON art space will present more than 40 pieces of ink and bitumen drawings and new collection of poetry by Hong Kong visual artist and poet Claire Lee. The launch will coincide with the annual, all-day cultural event South Island Art Day 2017. The solo exhibition, named The Awakening, will run until 11 November.
The collection expresses the inner turmoil of the bison on the ink drawings, along with the intimate poetry on conversation with the artist herself. From the bison’s bold physicality, developing to abstract mindscapes, the journey represents a search in emptiness and seeks for spiritual awakening.
Based in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, Claire Lee studied curatorial at the Hong Kong Art School. Her works, in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, poetry and mixed media draw on subjects dealing with psychological struggles and personal strength. She offers in her poems and artworks a vision of a world of contrasts, expressing a spiritual strength and purity in times of pain. Her works have been featured in museum exhibitions in Japan, Taipei and the United States, as well as Art Central in Hong Kong and galleries including Fringe Club, Cattle Depot Artist Village and Mur Nomade.
The launch will take place on 14 October. Opening hours for the exhibition are 1pm–7pm from Tuesday to Saturday or by appointment.
