18 November, 2017 @ 8:45 am - 3:45 pm
FOCUS and the Dyslexia Association (Hong Kong) are bringing together two internationally recognised experts to share, educate and raise awareness of learning differences. Dr Thomas Brown and Dr Lindsay Peer will take part in a parenting and educator seminar on 18 November, aimed at people wanting to better understand how to support children with ADHD and Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD). Attendance for the whole day will cost HK$1400, or HK$700 for a half day.
Sessions will be divided into parent and educator seminars, with topics including ‘Winning with Dyslexia’, which looks at the impact on a child’s emotions, as well as ‘Unraveling the Mysteries of the Brain’s Self-Management System’, which will look at differences in executive functioning. Other topics will include ‘New Understandings of ADHD: implications for educators’, and ‘Overcoming Underachievement: The link between processing, academic and emotional difficulties in dyslexia’, which will look at the current understanding of dyslexia.
Dr. Thomas Brown earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Yale University and served on the clinical faculty of the Dept. of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine for 20 years while operating a clinic for children and adults with ADHD and related problems. Dr. Lindsay Peer is widely recognised as an expert in the range of specific learning difficulties, SEN and mainstream education.
