Cordis, Hong Kong Art in Residence Exhibition by Rob Sketcherman
23 October, 2017 - 28 November, 2017
Cordis, Hong Kong is partnering with Hong Kong’s urban artist Rob Sketcherman to host the latest Art in Residence exhibition. Sketcherman recreates local street scenes on his iPad and the exhibition will showcase some of his favourite corners of Hong Kong. Six of his artworks will be displayed in the hotel lobby, including Hollywood Road Hustle, Gooseneck Market, Tram Journey, Yiu Tung Street, Sam Shing Tsuen, Yuen Po Bird Garden. The iPads mounted below each piece give viewers an insight of how each piece was created.
Through capturing these detailed and dynamic scenes, he hopes to encourage viewers to stop, look up and around, and to delight in the beauty that surrounds them every day. “In narrow alleyways and on crowded street corners, I’ve found my senses stimulated and heightened as I soak in the stories, sounds and sights around me. After periods of observation that range from snatched seconds to long, contemplative pauses, I sketch, draw and paint to capture that magical confluence of time and place,” he says.
The exhibition will be located in the lobby of the hotel and open to the public from 23 October to 28 November 2017. Home to over 1,500 pieces of contemporary Chinese art, Cordis, Hong Kong is believed to have one of the world’s largest collections, making it an ideal location to host the exhibition. The hotel also provides Art Tour Cards for residents to continue their art journey.
