Altfield Gallery presents Northern Elegance
21 October - 31 October
This Autumn, Altfield Gallery is showcasing an exclusive collection of fine early Chinese antique furniture from the Northern provinces. You’ll discover pieces dating back to a thousand years from the Song, Yuan and Ming dynasties. The exquisite pieces combine the archaic characteristics of the early dynasties and the simplicity and elegant lines of the Ming Dynasty. Such items are extremely easy to integrate into contemporary homes.
Featured pieces include highly decorative raised coffers, carved display tables, painted laquer cabinets and a very large official’s hat armchair originating from the 18th and 19th centuries. Of particular interest in the exhibition is a rare, long display table, of great elegance with wonderfully carved dragons on the wrapped-around apron. Originally created for the homes of the wealthy merchant class, good early pieces have become difficult to find and are sought after by collectors.
The Exhibition is being staged in two spaces – the Altfield Gallery in Prince’s Building, Central – and also in Altfield’s spacious Aberdeen Annex showroom with its high ceiling which allows some of the particularly impressive larger pieces such as couches, high compound cabinets, painting tables and carved architectural screens to be displayed.
For anyone wanting a to learn about, and see a range of carefully curated and edited pieces of fine early antique Chinese Furniture, this is a wonderful opportunity. Come to see a collection of the best pieces available in the market today.
The gallery is open 10am-7pm, Monday to Saturday and 11am-5pm on Sundays.
