Best Christmas displays for the family to enjoy

One of the best parts of the lead-up to Christmas is enjoying the festive displays and activities around the city. Take the family to experience giant Christmas trees, meet with Santa Claus or check out elaborate lights. Sure, it may be a little OTT, but who cares? It’s all part of the fun. Here’s our guide to some of our fave Christmas displays on Hong Kong.

1. Landmark

LANDMARK’s Christmas displays are always an elaborate affair and this year is no exception. The display has a theme of ‘Unlock Your Imagination’. There will be a music and light show every 30 minutes. There will be a Wishing Machine at the display where LANDMARK will donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

2. 1881 Heritage

The annual Christmas display at 1881 Heritage harks back to yesteryear with a theme of ‘Jolly Rockin’ Christmas’. Its Grand Piazza has been transformed into a 13-metre high antique toy shop atop an elegant vintage rocking horse. There will also be live music from 6pm–7pm on selected dates. One of the best Christmas displays to visit as part of the trip to TST to enjoy the Christmas 3D light show.

3. Harbour City

Experience Harbour City’s outdoor Christmas display against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s skyline. This year friends and family are invited to experience ‘Christmas in the Air’, which sees three giant Santa airships in the forecourt, including one where you can say hi to Santa. Also look for the 3m x 3m Christmas house with more than 100 helium balloons.

4. ELEMENTS

ELEMENT mall’s Metal Zone has been transformed into the ‘Snowy Christmas Carnival’ Christmas display, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the British classic, The Snowman and The Snowdog. There will be sophisticated automation, magnificent lighting and special Christmas melodies. The will also be workshops and storytelling.

5. Hong Kong Winterfest

The centrepiece of Winterfest is undoubtedly the massive Christmas Tree at Statue Square, with lights which rival those of the city. Pay a visit to the tree for the chance to meet Father Christmas or enjoy a performance of classic Christmas carols. Love locks can also be bought for HK$50 to hang on the railings.

6. Hong Kong Disneyland

Enjoy a Disney Christmas! There are all sorts of special Christmas events, You can meet Santa Goofy at Santa Goofy’s Post Office, as well as share Christmas greetings with Mickey Mouse and his friends. Gather around the giant Christmas tree in the evenings as a live quartet perform I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas, followed by a lantern procession down Main Street complete with snow from 6.15pm. After the fireworks, the Christmas celebration continues as carollers perform in Town Square to farewell you. Enjoy the Disney spin on Christmas displays.

7. Pacific Place

Pacific Place has a range of displays and activities. Visit Santa’s Grotto and enjoy the village, complete with the smell of freshly baked ginger bread. Children can enjoy having their photo taken with Santa and local schoolchildren will entertain with carolling performances. The mall is also offering workshops to make ornaments and gifts, and a Christmas Spectacular of performances.

8. Cityplaza

A group of elves have transformed Cityplaza into a ‘Delightful Christmas Wonderland’. Expect to find an illuminated wonderland with a gigantic, interactive slide, fun games and more. There will also be a 46-foot-tall Christmas tree, perched on top of a playful merry-go-round music box.

9. Ocean Park

The Ocean Park Christmas Sensation will see festive activities across the whole park. Highlights include the first-ever virtual reality (VR) rollercoaster in Hong Kong and the Pinkoi Festive Marketplace. The entire park will be decked out with festive decorations, artificial snow, a giant 40-foot Christmas tree, a Santa’s house, and Christmas garden to create a romantic Christmas village. A favourite of the Christmas displays for kids.

10. Hong Kong Pulse 3D Light Show

This 3D light show features music and dazzling illuminations with a festive theme, part of Hong Kong WinterFest. Watch as magical dragons explore hidden corners of Hong Kong to revitalise the city frozen in time. Eight-minute shows at various times from 8.10pm in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.

11. ifc

The ifc mall has a ‘Christmas in Space’ theme throughout the mall. Expect a variety of galactic installations through the mall, such as Christmas trees as rocket ships and an astronaut Santa. There will also be carol singers in the afternoon, and a ‘Merrymaking in Space’ Christmas performance. This will see Russian acrobatic couple Evgenii Filin and Sofia Filina joining forces with magician Stuart Palm, to perform more than 20 fabulous shows at the Oval Atrium, taking the audience on a journey of space exploration full of surprises and festive fun.

12. Gold Coast Piazza

Gold Coast Piazza will be the scene of a gigantic Christmas-themed brick toy installation. The five-metre-tall Christmas tree and Santa Claus, entirely made out of Mega Bloks building blocks will dominate the center stage at the Atrium, along with reindeer and snowman installations. Kids can tap into their pool of creativity in the ‘Build Up the Fun Christmas Challenge’, where it challenges them to construct their Christmas tree in the fastest speed. Santa Claus will be making appearances on 23 and 24 December, along with carollers.
