Best Beach Bars in Hong Kong

17 September, 2021 by Rebecca Simpson 3 Min Read

https://expatliving.hk/best-beach-bars-in-hong-kong/

The fragrant harbour isn’t all sky scrapers and city slickers; we also have some super-chilled beach bars in Hong Kong. Here are some of our favourite beachside spots for eats and drinks.

Bathers, South Lantau

This is the perfect option for a weekend or weekday meal with visitors, or celebrating a special occasion. Take your visitors to Lower Cheung Sha Beach for drinks and a meal right on the sand. Once you’ve had your fill, take a stroll along what is one of Hong Kong’s best beaches.

Where: South Lantau Road, Lantau
How to get there: Ferry from Central Pier 6 to Mui Wo, then bus 1 or 2 from Mui Wo town centre

This view plus a cocktail… magic

Coconuts Thai, Deep Water Bay

Escape the city and head over to Deep Water Bay for a night of amazing Thai food and beachfront views. We loved visiting Coconuts Thai because it offers a completely relaxed vibe, amazing food, cocktails and wine. Plus there are showers and change rooms at the beach if you want to swim before you eat – what better way to shake off your work day?

Where: Island Road, Deep Water Bay
How to get there: Bus 6, 6A or 260 from Exchange Square in Central. Green minibus 40 or 52

Hemingway’s in Discovery Bay

Jump on a 25-minute ferry from Central and head to Discovery Bay. Stroll along the waterfront towards the beach and drop into Hemingway’s for a drink and some vegan bites. This is also a great place to enjoy live music on the weekends.

Where: Discovery Bay Road, Discovery Bay
How to get there: Ferry from Central Pier 3; turn right at Discovery Bay ferry pier and walk 5 minutes to beach entrance

Momentai, Sai Kung Waterfront

A great local bar with a relaxed vibe and loads of space to congregate with a group of friends. This venue offers Hong Kong craft beers, great happy hour deals, a family-friendly menu, pool tables and a front-row seat to the Sai Kung Waterfront.

Limewood, Repulse Bay

Southside beach days happen right in front of Limewood, one of Hong Kong’s favourite beach bars. A great option for drinks or a full meal, it’s a Gold medal winner in Expat Living’s Reader’s Choice Award.

Where: Beach Road, Repulse Bay
How to get there: Taxi or bus 6, 6A, 6X, 66 or 260 from Exchange Square in Central

Ben’s Back Beach Bar, Shek O

At the end of one of the city’s best hikes, Dragon’s Back, is Shek O beach. And right there is Ben’s Back Beach Bar, a super relaxed venue with cheap drinks and an outdoor barbecue area.

Where: Shek O Road, Shek O
How to get there: Taxis, minibuses and bus 9 from Shau Kei Wan MTR station exit A3

Cococabana, Shek O

Shek O offers local beach vibes and market stalls, making it a great day trip. Cococabana is a Mediterranean restaurant that overlooks the water. So, once you’ve had a swim, you can head up for a few drinks on the terrace overlooking the beach.
