Balancing body and mind with yoga

31 March, 2023 by Expat Living 3 Min Read

Hong Kong is a vibrant place and city life can be hectic – that’s why getting the right balance is key. We visited one of HK’s premiere boutique yoga studios, Flo Yoga, to find out how to do just that!

About Flo Yoga

Founded by experienced yoga teachers ANN DA SILVA and KEIKI TO, Flo Yoga is a sanctuary in the city, offering 3,500 square feet of dedicated space for yoga and meditation on Bonham Strand in Hong Kong.

What you’ll find

Ann and Keiki describe Flo Yoga as a boutique yoga studio and professional yoga academy rolled into one. Day-to-day yoga classes are led by experienced and passionate yoga teachers, with all kinds of options, from Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow and Yoga Wheel to specialty classes like Prenatal Yoga, Wall Fusion Flow, MyoYin, Yoga Therapy and Sound Bath Therapy.

With such a diverse offering, it’s no surprise that people from all walks of life turn up at the Flo Yoga studio. “Depending on the time of the day, you might see members who are lawyers, teachers, office executives, health-oriented housewives, yoga teachers or aspiring yogis,” say Ann and Keiki.

Two additional highlights of the studio are the authentic Great Yoga Wall for Yoga Wall Rope classes, and one of HK’s first Graphene Infra-red Hot Yoga facilities, offering therapeutic hot and warm yoga classes.

Flo Yoga Academy, meanwhile, is an RYS (Registered Yoga School) with the Yoga Alliance of the US, and well-known in the yoga community for training some of the best yoga teachers in Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan and abroad. Many of them have since gone on to become studio owners or yoga teachertrainers themselves.

Getting the balance right

“We believe that health and beauty comes with balance between the mind, body and spirit,” say Ann and Keiki. “Yoga is the key to this internal harmony that each of us can attain. It’s a life-long journey where we begin to look inward through the practice of asanas (yoga poses).”

In this way, say the pair, Flo Yoga provides that link between the outer and the inner – through offering professional and inspiring yoga classes and trainings, so each practitioner can grow as they wish.

“We teach through experience, through our own learning, and from our hearts. We don’t teach just asanas, but everything yoga, both on and off the mat.”

New for 2023

The studio has a couple of exciting things going on this year. In March, Ann and Keiki welcomed Master Anjan Kundu to the teaching team. “Master Anjan began his yoga journey at age six and he has won accolades in more than 350 yoga competitions across India. He’s been teaching yoga and teacher-training workshops in HK since 2007. He’ll lead group and private classes and also teacher training at Flo.”

In addition, a second sacred space for yoga and meditation is in the works, with more details to be announced in the coming months.

Flo Yoga is at 2/F, Hing Lung Commerical Building, 68-74 Bonham Strand, Sheung Wan (2 minutes from Sheung Wan MTR Exit A2).
